    Hi,

All of the attached DMP files are of the UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP (7f) bug check.

*This bug check indicates that the Intel CPU generated a trap and the kernel failed to catch this trap.BugCheck 7F, {8, ffffd000201d6130, ffffd00026a9dff0, ffffe00003694dfe}*The 1st parameter of the bug check is 0x00000008, or Double Fault, indicates that an exception occurs during a call to the handler for a prior exception. Typically, the two exceptions are handled serially. However, there are several exceptions that cannot be handled serially, and in this situation the processor signals a double fault. There are two common causes of a double fault:

    • A kernel stack overflow. This overflow occurs when a guard page is hit, and the kernel tries to push a trap frame. Because there is no stack left, a stack overflow results, causing the double fault.
    • A hardware problem.

^^ Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility (a known BSOD maker in Win7 and Win8). Also a part of many Asus utilities. The driver is dated from 2005 which is FAR too old to function with Windows 8.

    Go here - http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M4A88TDV_EVOUSB3/#support

and select Windows 8 64 bit (Windows 8.1 driver not available, so 8 will have to do). Select Utilities > download and install

    ATK0110 ACPI Driver for Windows 8 32bit and 64bit.

    1. The most common problem after upgrades is antivirus and firewall software doesn't transition properly and causes memory corruption due to compatibility issues, etc. With this said, please remove and replace ESET for temporary troubleshooting purposes:

I removed 2 sticks of pc2-6400 ram and put in 1 stick pc2-5300.

error stopped and windows 8.1 install continued until it required the hard drive that it could not find. I could see the windows files on it when I browsed for sata driver.

I put in the windows 8.1 retail key instead of the oem key. Windows continued and finished installing with out any errors.

The ram was supposed to work fine on this santa rosa chipset and sony vaio vgn-nr240e.

Microsoft blamed it on my hardware and oem disk. I have paid for both.

I will have to change my key back to original oem. Easy fix.

This error was hard to find because I had to press pause key to prevent reboot, just to read it.

    Sony Vaio vgn-nr240e.

will have to look for bios update also.

Searching on internet, I came across a memory error related to this problem. That gave me a hint to try 1 stick of old ram. The error stopped. "Unexpected Kernel Trap Mode"

Yes! That did it (I think). Had to get eset out via safe mode, but I don't seem to be having any problems since! Thank you very much!
