Surface Laptop 3 Restarting Randomly

I have the power settings set to NOT restart when the power is plugged in and NOT to go into sleep mode. 

Even with these settings the laptop restarts randomly. I'll be writing code and it restarts. Its random.

16.0 GB RAM

    We published new improvements and fixes for Surface Laptop 3 that improve device stability. You can get updates now by checking Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. We recommend that you install these updates to keep your Surface performing its best.

    As I mentioned I took it out of the box, did all updates, and then installed Visual Studio and SQL Management Studio. So i have had no experience prior to this. I owned a Surface Pro 3 prior to this Surface Laptop 3 and it had these 2 applications and way way more on it it. I had no issues ever. I would even have 2 versions of MS SQL Management Studio running, 3 instances of Visual Studio running as well as Photoshop and other things literally open and running and the Surface Pro 3 didn't even skip a beat. 

    Keep in mind it doesn't matter if I have those applications running or not. It still restarts randomly. Between 30 minutes to about 3 hours and then it restarts. Isn't there a log file I can send you from the computer that gives you information about why its restarting?

    I use this as a work laptop so I can't be without the software on the laptop. I purchased this laptop because I thought it would be better than my Surface Pro 3 it replaced.

    Hi JasonSanterre,

    Thanks for the patience on this matter. We do have some few questions to clarify this out.

    We would like to know if the random restart shows after you install these application that you mentioned. Specially the Microsoft SQL management

    Because if possible we can try to uninstall and re-install them and check if it does the same thing. Otherwise, we might proceed on doing a Reset or a Fresh Start on it.

    Blah, as i was typing my response to you it restarted. Grrr

    Everything is up to date. 

    Windows 10

    Version 1909

    OS Build: 18363.476

    Once i took it out of the box i installed Visual Studio 2017 and then Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 18

    Other than that just FileZilla.

    Thanks for reaching Microsoft Surface Community. We thank you for taking advantage on our new Surface Laptop 3. We're sorry to hear with regards on your concern. Definitely, this is not the experience that we want you to have. We do have some few questions to further isolate the issue.

    If this is a new device, kindly make sure that you have fully run the manual updates on it.

    If everything is updated, what is the current OS version and build of it?

    Have you installed any 3rd party applications recently?

    Is this happening on the first place after you set it up?
