Microsoft Teams Bandwidth requirement

I found the following bandwidth requirement in the MS website

30 kbps Peer-to-peer audio calling
130 kbps Peer-to-peer audio calling and screen sharing
500 kbps Peer-to-peer quality video calling 360p at 30fps
1.2 Mbps Peer-to-peer HD quality video calling with resolution of HD 720p at 30fps
1.5 Mbps Peer-to-peer HD quality video calling with resolution of HD 1080p at 30fps
500kbps/1Mbps Group Video calling
1Mbps/2Mbps HD Group video calling (540p videos on 1080p screen)

I have the following question:

  1. If I have Teams video conference session with 2 other people (that is, total have 3 persons), does it follow the Group Video calling case?
  2. Is the Peer-to-peer case only applicable for 2 users only?
  3. Among these 3 people, 2 of them locate in the same office, does the bandwidth requirement is 1Mbps x 2 = 2 Mbps?
  4. In another meeting, 10 users have joined the meeting while 8 of them are located in the same office. All of those 10 users have not turned on their cam and only turned on their mic, what's the bandwidth requirement?

Regards,

KWong

    Hi KwongHC,

Thank you for your finding amid with the effort.

    1) If I have Teams video conference session with 2 other people (that is, total have 3 persons), does it follow the Group Video calling case?

    Yes.

    2) Is the Peer-to-peer case only applicable for 2 users only?

Yes that is correct, peer to peer is for one to one user.

    3) Among these 3 people, 2 of them locate in the same office, does the bandwidth requirement is 1Mbps x 2 = 2 Mbps?

It will still be 1Mbps and really depends on many factors, like video layout, resolution which consume the bandwidth accordingly.

    4) In another meeting, 10 users have joined the meeting while 8 of them are located in the same office. All of those 10 users have not turned on their cam and only turned on their mic, what's the bandwidth requirement?

We can't really give you the answer for this hypnosis and that shall be greater than 30kbps since more than two people are talking at the same time.

Hope it helps to some extent.

    Yours Sincerely,

    George

Yes, technically for the HD group video calling. But if they need to use high resolution video device or 4K, it shall be greater than this.

    Your Sincerely,

    George

Thanks for your reply. For Q3, does it mean that the video among the 2 people in the same subnet will be shared among themselves? So, even I have 10 people in the same office  and same subnet and all of them have turned on video in the conference, is it still only require 1Mbps?

    Regards,

    KWong
