Hi - After installing KB5012643 I have found that going into Safe-Mode is broken and the screen just flashes up random windows.

Has anyone else seen this problem with Safe-Mode after KB5012643 is installed?

Regards

Hi Billy, I just tested this and safe mode is horribly broken. The eventlog shows many services as not being able to start, it also seems like Windows Explorer is stuck in a crash loop. If I figure out anything more, I'll post back.

EDIT: FWIW safe mode with networking works fine.

Winlogon loop - The shell stopped unexpectedly and Explorer.exe was restarted.

I'm experiencing the exact same issue. You are locked in a loop where windows explorer is constantly restarting. I was able to get out from there by open a Task Manager -> File -> Run new task. But then again you have to run the msconfig and select a normal start up between the loop cycles which is hilarious.

Same problem on three different computers (1x Windows 11 Educaton, 1x Windows 11 Pro, 1x Windows 11 Home). The KB5012643 Cumulative Update breaks safe mode (it was working fine before the update). The screen flickers and a bunch of services aren't loading up. I was able to hit CTRL+ALT+DEL to get to the options to restart the computer, though, and start it normally afterwards. Will uninstall KB5012643 and see if that fixes things.

Update: After uninstalling KB5012643 Safe mode works fine on all systems again.

Also, the "Show or Hide Updates" tool can't seem to see/hide KB5012643 for whatever reason and Windows will try to install the faulty KB5012643 update again. @Microsoft Please pull KB5012643 from distribution ASAP!

How could this buggy update make it through QA and to the release channel anyway?!

Same here, safe mode crash loop. Uninstalling KB5012643 helped.

I used msconfig to enable safe mode, so to disable it had to work a hard with win+R + enter (since it used last entered value - msconfig). At some ~200 time screen stayed on top and wasn't closed :D

In event logs I see a lot of errors every second:

DCOM got error "1084" attempting to start the service WpnUserService_3c042 with arguments "Unavailable" in order to run the server:

Yep! Had this on three different machines tonight when I was updating Nvidia drivers, which involves going into safe mode and running DDU.

Thank goodness you can actually get to Task Manager and run msconfig, so you can disable safe mode.

    Jesus Microsoft! Lol!
