Hello Ariel,
Thank you for taking my question.
- When does the issue start?
It starts, and only occurs when I try to create an Outlook task from OneNote 2016
- Does it happens after updating your Windows 10?
Yes, it occurred before my latest update, and has continued to occur since I last updated Windows 10.
- Were you able to create an Outlook task from text before?
Yes. I've been able to do this for at least the past 2 years without any difficulty.
- What troubleshooting steps have you tried?
Not too much. I've found in the past that I usually do more harm than good when I try figuring out and fixing serious malfunctions such as this one.
Here are the steps I take to create an Outlook task. Using my Surface Pen I will write out a brief note, three to six words long. I will depress the flat button on the side of the pen and create a lasso around the text. This selects it. I then use
the button to bring up the context menu, select Outlook Tasks, and then select either No Date, or Custom.
It usually takes 10 to 15 seconds for OneNote to interpret the handwriting, create the task, and open up the created task; however, when this error occurs, the task is never created and the Task Pane never appears. But in a few seconds "(Not Responding)"
will appear next to the "OneNote" name in the program name bar. After that anything I do will bring up the "Not Responding" pane and I usually close the program. At that point I receive the error message.
Just now as i tried to reproduce the error, I found that this feature worked properly when I created a task from a single word. However, when I subsequently tried to create a task from six words, the error occurred.
Here's the error message.
I wondered if I was using too much ram, but I have only 4 programs running and only 33% of my ram is being used. OneNote shows to be using 120 mb of ram after I lasso the text to select it.
Lo and behold, the process now worked correctly using the six word phrase that caused it to crash a minute earlier. I'm befuddled. Hopefully you can make sense of this.
