Hi. I have had my laptop  (an Asus VivoBook F550LD-X0225H UltraBook) for approximately six months and due to issues with the laptop i decided to completely reset the computer. After said reset i was infomed that not all personal files had been deleted. Then i was redirected to a page with the following message:

The operating system could not be loaded because the kernel is missing and or contains errors.

File; \Windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe

Error Code: 0xc0000221

Press enter to try again

Press F8 to startup

Press Esc for UEFI Firmware Settings

I do not posses any recovery tools nor windows installation discs as windows 8.1 came pre installed. Im only a student with severely limited funds, what is the cheapest possible way to fix his problem?

    HI,

    chkdsk C: /r

If CheckDisk fails to complete as above : <-- Manufacturer's Diagnostic Utilities.

Run the appropriate one of these and/or the trial versions below.

How to test the RAM memory:

Memory tests do not catch all errors such as mismatched memory (possible even for sticks

that appear to be identical) and when faster memory is placed in system behind slower memory. So it is best to also swap sticks in and out to check for those even if all memory tests fail to show a problem.

To test RAM check here - let it run 4+ hours or so.  <-- best methodwww.memtest.org
