    Hi Vesaarno,

    • Any recent changes done on the computer?

This may usually happen due to data execution prevention.

Try adding it in the exception for data execution prevention and check if it works.

Step 1: Go to Start, Control Panel and click on System.

Step 2: Now click on the Advanced tab and under Performance, click on Settings.

Step 3: Click on Data Execution Prevention and select the Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select: radio button.

Step 4: Now click the Add button and browse to C:\Windows\System32 and choose the regsvr32.exe file. When you get the message stating it could make your computer become unprotected and vulnerable to attacks, just click OK to continue.

Click OK and then click OK again to exit

If the above steps fail then I would suggest that you check in the event viewer to know the cause of the error and post back with the details from the event viewer.

What information appears in event logs? (Event Viewer)

    Hope this helps!

This worked for me, thanks Halima.  Maybe you can help with another problem I am having -- I can't perform help searches from the start menu.  I get "search failed to initialize".  I can not open the HP Advisor, Help and Support or any app dealing with trying to find help.  I was told to turn of the "User Account Control" feature in Vista.  I did and restarted the computer.  Everything worked fine.  Is it safe to leave the User Account Control protection off?

I'm trying to install Autodesk Land Desktop 2004 on a Vista machine with four Gb RAM. I keep getting "Microsoft Register Server has stopped working", although right after another window pops up, "Land Desktop 2004 has installed successfully".

But something's not right. Every time I close the program, "AutoCAD Application as stopped working".

If I did the above, would I have to uninstall this first, then reinstall it? Can I turn off DEP again after it's installed?

I was installing land desktop on windows 7 64 bit, and here is what I did to get it working.  After successful install, do the following:

    1)  right click on desktop icon for land desktop and go to properties

    2)  in the compatibility tab, click run this program in compatibility mode for:

    3)  choose windows 2000

do not install the nt update packages when installing land desktop, however load everything else.  land desktop 2004 now opens, closes and appears to run correctly under these settings. (no errors on opening and closing)  Hope this helps.

I am having this same problem.

I triedthe procedure recommended and got this message: "You cannot set DEP attributes on 64-bit executables."

    Any solution to this issue?
