Hi,

I recently installed a new update last night and set it to shut down after the update since it was late in the night and today when I logged back in I noticed a decline in performance on my laptop. My games that used to run at high fps like 200 dropped down between 20-50 fps depending on the load, google chrome lags on all sites, and windows file explorer stops responding multiple times, as I type this now the text appears delayed and my discord takes a good 2 minutes to load up any chat or server when it used to pop up instantly; to name a few examples.

I come home from a long day of work and want to enjoy some games and this happens. I've tried many things to fix the issue. I have checked for any new updates which there were but they didn't make a difference to the problems. I have run a disk check. I emptied my files onto my hard drive except for heavy adobe programs and a few games. I have split my core processor or whatever it's called into 4 instead of 1. I have closed all apps running in the background. I dont know what else to do.

    You don't say what update, version History will show.

    And if a branded laptop whether you have used that makers update utility to update drivers?

    Hi. I'm David, and I'm happy to help you.

    I know how frustrating it is when the computer doesn't work the way you expect.

    I suggest you use the System Restore and choose a restore point that was created before installing the update.

    1. Press "Windows + R", type RStrui and press Enter;
    2. In the "Restore System Files and Settings" window, select "Next".

    Note: If on this screen you have two options to choose from ("Recommended restore" and "Choose a different restore point"), see if the "Recommended restore" is before the problem started. If so, select "Search affected programs" and proceed as in step 4. Or select "Choose a different restore point" to see the list of available restore points and proceed to Step 3.

    1. Select the restore point you want to use from the list of results, then select "Search affected programs".

    Note: If you don't see the restore point you want, check "Show more restore points".

    1. You will see a list of items that will be deleted if this restore point is performed. If you are satisfied with the exclusions, select Close > Next > Finish.

    Note: System Restore does not affect your documents, images, or other personal data.

    See if the issue is resolved after using System Restore. Even if the issue is resolved, I suggest installing the updates again. Perhaps the problem was caused by a specific problem that occurred during the update, and on a second attempt, it should not occur.

    I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions.

    I am very very slow this morning after a windows update. Given that microsoft knows a lot more than I, could microsoft do another update to do the restoration. I fear that trying to do the restoration myself might lead to even more problems.
