hi. i had touchscreen when i got this laptop and it was working very fine. but for a while it has stopped and i had thought i had manually turned it off on device manager. when i thought of re-enabling it i notice that the option for 'hid touch screen' is simply not present, which i clearly remember being there a few months back. there is a I2C hid device with a yellow exclamation mark, so i updated the driver but my setting says everything is up to date. what should i do??

    Hi 99KrisY,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear about your touch screen issue. Let's try a few steps to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the problem: Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) is a type of software that helps Windows communicate with your Surface’s hardware. Because UEFI operates independently of Windows, testing hardware in UEFI will work if you have a hardware issue.

    • If touch does not work in UEFI, your device likely has experienced a hardware failure and needs servicing.
    • If touch works in UEFI, the issue probably involves Windows or the touch driver.

Follow these steps to boot to UEFI and test touch functionality:

    1. Go to Start  > Power  > Shut down .
    2. When Surface is off, press and hold the volume up button and press the power button until a Microsoft or Surface logo appears onscreen.
    3. Once you are in UEFI, touch your Surface screen and see if it responds normally. Try to navigate in UEFI by tapping various menu items. Then, depending on how your Surface responds to touch, follow one of these steps:

Through this process, you’ll find out if your Surface is in or out of warranty and how much it’ll cost, if applicable. Depending on the product, the service offered may be a repair or a refurbished replacement. Once an order is created, you’ll get a shipping address so you can send in your device. I hope this helps. If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.Your SincerelyHahn. W - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
