Captions in my Word document all change to figure if I change only one caption to figure.

I have a large Word document with many captions for both figures and tables. The captions have started to link together and if I select figure, all captions in the document change to figure, alternatively if I select table, all caption in the document change to table. How can I resolve this?

If you want to modify or replace a single table caption (or figure caption), don't select the caption. Instead, just delete the caption and then insert the correct one.

As you have noticed, if you select the caption, Word tries to be clever and, in the process, the program changes all of the captions of the same type.

Thank you Stefan, this appears to be working. It is quite a fiddly way to do this.
