Why does reporting an email bring more suspicious emails?

I have reported several spam/phishing/scam emails but then receive a rash of unwelcome emails! They fortunately mostly end up in my junk folder but why does this happen?

    Hi Palcouk

    I have a live.co.uk account.

If I empty the junk folder, I don't appear to have a problem. But, if I report a more offensive one, I seem to get a rash of offensive ones in my junk folder just after.

    Hi JC03

If I empty the junk folder, I don't appear to have a problem. But, if I report a more offensive one, I seem to get a rash of offensive ones in my junk folder just after!

I don't receive loads and loads of junk usually, so was just wondering if reporting them opened some sort of scam to receive more junk!

I just empty the junk folder now and do not report any to Microsoft and all seems back to usual.

    Hi, Suefi1.

I'm Jen, I'm also an Outlook user just like you. I'm not working for Microsoft but I'd be happy to help you figure this out.

I understand you've been getting more unwanted emails (junk/phishing) even after reporting the ones you've recently received. Unfortunately, reporting phishing emails does not block or prevent them from sending you emails. You can find the same info in the Note in the "Report a message as phishing in Outlook.com" section in the link below.

I would suggest following the tips on the support page below to help you prevent spam and phishing emails from reaching your inbox.

    I hope this somehow helps.

    Kind regards.

I appreciate the additional details. I'm glad that you're no longer receiving a lot of junk emails. I have not experienced the same when I reported the phishing emails I received before but I still receive some from time to time. There is not much we can do as a user aside from blocking and marking these emails as junk but you can submit feedback regarding this by clicking on the question mark then scrolling down and clicking on the Feedback link. Also, to help you further protect your account, I recommend the support article below.
