Window 11 closes my apps when my computer goes to sleep after many hours

I have the same issue, but not for "long" or short sleep. It started with the Windows 11 upgrade that now when my computer goes into sleep mode (for any duration), anything open in applications like Edge, Outlook and Word are closed, and then generate messages such as "Windows did not shut down normally. . .".

In Word, it generates a recovered unsaved file that I then must sort out saving and replacing the original file. This can happen over short periods of time of walking away from my desk, etc. I have pretty good file saving habits. This is both new and very annoying. Is there a fix?

This is honestly so frustrating. I used to think Windows was the absolute best and would love a replacement for it now - including Word. Nothing is user friendly anymore, I can't ungroup my apps and I have to go into "hybrid" mode? Like what? And it does this every time I shut my laptop which is often because I move from space to space. I can't Windows 11 anymore.

In all my searching by keyword and by menu, I cannot find "hybrid" and my display menus do not include it. Go figure.

I tried two of the three of these. I have not created and run the .bat file. On the others, I can find no "hybrid" mode in Windows 11. And when I did manage to find a "power troubleshooter", all it did was reset my monitor and sleep settings back to the defaults, from the more lengthy intervals I had set. Apparently, I considers durations of over 10 minutes "trouble."

Thanks for the suggestions, but it looks like the routines for working with Windows 10 are not translating over to Windows 11 for this. I could attempt to create and run that .bat file, but I am a bit hesitant about that.

I have the same problem on my new Samsung laptop. I found a workaround. Some apps are available in 2 variants: 1) Regular installation (old style) and 2) get it from Microsoft Store (new style). If you install the app as regular windows installation by executing the .exe file downloaded from the official website, such app does not close when windows 11 goes to sleep mode. For example it worked for me for Skype and WhatsApp.

Hi - I have the same problem on my new Lenovo laptop computer I jus received loaded with Windows 11 and brand new versions of Office apps. If I leave the laptop on overnight in the morning with open files and browser, I see that Chrome, Word and Excel are closed. This is extremely annoying to me as I did not have this problem with my old laptop which is running Windows 10. This is exactly the reason why I did not upgrade to Windows 11 on my old laptop. But when I just purchased a new laptop I did not have a choice about the operating system. This certainly feels like a windows operating system problem. I hope MS is reading these boards and address the issue with a patch.
