Outlook 365 Sync Issues

I have four email accounts set up in Outlook Microsoft 365. Two are yahoo accounts. One works and the other doesn't. They are both configured correctly, IMAP and SMTP settings the same, logons and passwords different. When I created the second yahoo email account, it connects, sends test email, green check fine, but then when I click send and receive, I get sync issues on the second account and it says it cannot connect to server, so no emails are received. I have deleted the ost account and started over, it still doesn't work. So why should there be an issue with the second account if the first works FINE? It's not a YAHOO issue because the other yahoo account works. It's an Outlook issue and there is no way for me to turn off file synchronization for this account that I CAN FIND.

The error message: Task 'Synchronizing subscribed folders for ******@yahoo.com.' reported error (0x800CCC0E) : 'Outlook cannot synchronize subscribed folders for *************@yahoo.com. Error: Cannot connect to the server. If you continue to receive this message, contact your server administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).'

    Hello Wildwynde,

I'm glad to hear you found a solution to the Yahoo IMAP settings issue! It's indeed perplexing how different settings work for different accounts, but your discovery and adjustment to use export.imap.mail.yahoo.com is a valuable insight, especially given the inconsistencies in documentation and guidance online.

Regarding turning off folder synchronization in Outlook 365 (version 2401 update), unfortunately, Outlook doesn't offer a straightforward option to disable folder synchronization entirely as it's a core part of how Outlook maintains up-to-date information with your mail server. Folder sync settings are typically managed automatically by Outlook to ensure your mailbox reflects the current state of your mail server.

However, you can manage or limit the amount of data being synchronized by adjusting the mail to keep offline settings:

    1. Go to File > Account Settings> Account Settings.
    2. Select your account and click Change.
    3. Under Offline Settings, adjust the slider for "Mail to keep offline" to a shorter time span, which can reduce the volume of data being synchronized.

This adjustment doesn't turn off synchronization but can limit the impact on your Outlook performance by reducing the amount of data it needs to sync regularly.

For more specific control over synchronization, especially for disabling it, you might need to look into more advanced settings or scripts, which unfortunately are not directly supported or easily accessible through the standard Outlook interface.

    Hello Wildwynde,

I'm Ibhadighi and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

The error 0x800CCC0E you're encountering in Outlook 365 indicates a problem with the email account's ability to connect to the email server. This can be due to various reasons, including incorrect account settings, firewall issues, or even Outlook's internal glitches. Given that one of your Yahoo accounts works fine and the other doesn't, despite identical settings, here are simple steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

1.Ensure the IMAP and SMTP server settings, including port numbers and encryption methods, are exactly correct for Yahoo. Even small discrepancies can cause issues.

    1. Sometimes, antivirus software or firewalls can block Outlook's connection to the server. Try temporarily disabling these (if safe to do so) and see if the issue resolves. If it does, you'll need to configure the firewall or antivirus settings to allow Outlook to connect.
    2. Outlook profiles can become corrupted, causing connection issues. Try creating a new profile in Outlook for your Yahoo account:
      • Go to Control Panel > Mail > Show Profiles > Add.
      • Follow the prompts to create a new profile and add your Yahoo account to it.
    3. Use the repair option within Outlook:
      • Go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings.
      • Select the problematic account and click "Repair". Follow the prompts and see if this resolves the issue.
    4. Ensure your Outlook and Microsoft 365 suite are up to date. Microsoft releases updates that can fix known issues.
    5. Although you mentioned it's unlikely a Yahoo issue since one account works, it's possible there are specific limitations or issues with the second account on Yahoo's end.

    I hope this helps.

    Best Regards, Ibhadighi

BTW, I already did EVERYTHING you recommended and it didn't work before you responded to my request. I updated everything, changed everything. I can not access server settings decently through outlook. I have to go to control panel, mail, to fix any issues with the profile logons, server settings, etc.

I found the problem and fixed it. Yahoo IMAP settings are thus:

    IMAP.MAIL.YAHOO.COM

    SMTP.MAIL.YAHOO.COM

And everywhere you look you can find that these are the settings.

HOWEVER, I happened on one weird yahoo post that said to format the imap settings like this to EXPORT imap yahoo mail. WTH?

    export.imap.mail.yahoo.com

    smtp.mail.yahoo.com

I did that and EVERYTHING WORKED.

The funny thing is that the FIRST yahoo account was set up with imap.mail.yahoo.com and it WORKED. So that was the confusing part. But since I changed it for my second yahoo account to the export.imap.mail.yahoo.com for the IMAP server -- everything worked.

Inconsistent ONLINE directions don't help. There are multiple directions for mail even on Microsoft, some of which contradict others. And there is no where that I can find to turn off folder synchronization (STILL) in Windows 10 and Microsoft 365. All of the directions for this listed on the Microsoft site don't work because my programs don't have the features available or the items to check off on subsequent screens.

Thank you for your help anyway. Unless you know how to turn off folders sync for Outlook 365 2401 update.
