    Hello cookham,

Changing Your MSN Messenger Sign In Settings

    1.     Open MSN Messenger

    2.     Click the down arrow next to your current status (i.e. Available, Appear Offline)

    3.     Click Options

    4.     Click on Sign In

    5.     Under the General heading you can choose to remove the checkmark from the boxes next to Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log into Windows or Allow automatic sign in when connected to the internet.

    6.     Changing either of these options will prevent you from automatically being signed into Hotmail.

Hope this helps you. Let us know either way. Make it a great day!

chris H, i have been clear of the earlier problem to which you responded with an answer, however it has cropped up again on my msn mail a/c. have again followed your earlier instructions , I have no check marks at all to delete-how do I get out of this new problem?

If you could spare the time to consider this I would be grateful.

    Hi there,

Just wanted to share how did I solve a similar problem (same error code and "unable to send or receivr messages")

    • Problem cause : A corrupted e-mail in the outbox folder (easy to identify because WLM won't be able to display the message)
    • Solution : Simply delete the corrupted e-mail and WLM will resume normal operation sycning your live hotmail account.

Normally when having this problem people are advised to remove their account and add it again.  Since that will erase all your localy stored messages it will for sure solve the problem, but there are two drawbacks to this method:

    1. If you had other healty e-mails that were not uploaded to the internet server you will lose them together with the corrupted one.
    2. You will have to download all your messages again, which may be a very long process for some people with several GBs

For the record, a related problem is the one with error ID:0x80004102

Also got that one recently (I've been playing a lot with hotmail accounts...), and this time around the problem was a corrupt message in a data folder (the inbox or any other folder different from outbox). Again, I simply found the message, deleted it, and WLM resumed its normal operation.

    Hope that helps other people,

    Daniel
