Laptop fan running faster after windows KB5055523 update

I have an HP ENVY laptop, with Windows11 version 24H2.

The other day I downloaded and installed the latest windows updates (KB5054979, KB5055523, KB5056686).

After this I noticed the laptop fan is louder. Constantly running faster. Even when I'm not running anything.

I uninstalled the updates one at a time, after uninstalling KB5055523, the fan speed is back to normal.

Reinstalled KB5055523 and the fan speed is running loud again. So looks like this update is causing the problem.

I checked the HP support website for latest drivers, it says I don't need any new software or drivers at this time.

I saw a comment in the microsoft community that if this is causing fan speed problem, can just uninstall the update.

But if this is a critical update, I don't want to run without it, if possible.

Are there any known issues with update KB5055523 causing fan speed to run faster?

    Hello Palcouk,

    I don't understand the wrong sources I downloaded the updates from. I downloaded them from Settings > Windows Update in Windows 11.

    In the Windows Update tab, I clicked on the 'Check for Updates' button, it showed me the KBxxxx files available, I selected them to download and update.

    Shouldn't these be ok to update if they're listed in the Windows Update tab?

    Thats because you have updated from the wrong sources, and 24H2 is an optional not critical update

    Win11 by default only installs critical security updates, unless you made the mistake of selecting “Get latest updates” which includes drivers.

    See your laptop/PC makers support to update both bios and ALL drivers.

    There should be a shortcut to that makers update utility on your system.

    Then set Bios to defaults & Pwr to balanced. At the end of the day shutdown, do not leave in sleep.

    Do NOT update from any other source inc Device Manager

    You only need to set the Advanced options for notify & Time, then leave win update to do its own thing.
