Microsoft Office 365, error code 0x426-0x0

I am suddenly unable to open Word or Excel on my PC, although I can continuer to use One Drive, message quotes error code 0x426-0x0. I have tried "Repair" in settings but that has not solved the problem. Neither has clicking on Reset. I am uncertain as to how best to proceed. If I read the instructions correctly, my next step is to uninstall Microsoft 365 (Office). If I do that, presumably the next step is to reinstall it but I am not sure how complicated this would be.

    Hello, DenisDadson.

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

Error code 0x426-0x0 is typically related to issues with the installation or configuration of Microsoft Office applications. Since repairing and resetting haven't resolved the issue, uninstalling and then reinstalling Microsoft 365 is a logical next step.

Here are the detailed steps you should follow to uninstall and then reinstall Microsoft 365:

1->Possible Solutions: Restart Microsoft Office Click-to-Run Service:

    • Open the Run dialog by pressing Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    • Find Microsoft Office Click-to-Run Service, right-click it, and select Start.
    • If it's already running, right-click and select Restart.
    • Set the Startup type to Automatic.

    2-> Perform an Online Repair:

    • Press Windows+R > Type control.exe > Then you will Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
    • Select Microsoft Office from the list and click Change.
    • Choose the Online Repair option and follow the instructions.

Note:The Microsoft 365 you find in Windows settings should be a UWP version of the app, so repairs and resets in it are not the same as an online repair. More details, kindly refer to Repair an Office application - Microsoft Support

3-> Check Windows Third-party software like Anti-virus or Clean software:

According to this thread, some third-party antivirus software or cleanup software may affect the installation of Office. Try to check if you have such software on your PC, and if so, consider disabling them temporarily. Please refer to the results shared by Marek_P_Skoczylas in this thread:

4-> Use Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant (SaRA) to uninstall it completely:

You can download this tool here in the article, see screenshot:

Uninstall Office from a PC - Microsoft Support

Once you're done, log in to account.microsoft.com – click on your Services & Subscriptions on the right – find your Microsoft 365 – click on Manage – select Install – and click on Offline Installer. As shown in the figure:

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the error and get Word and Excel working again. If you encounter any issues during the process, feel free to ask for further assistance.

    Best Regards,

I have the same issue and it looks like I'm down to a complete uninstall 365 since all apps have an issue. just to verify, will all my current files in all apps still be accessible once I reinstall?
