Project 2019 progress line printing issues

Users,

There have been a number of reports on this forum and the Project Technet forum about problems with progress lines when attempting to print a Gantt Chart view. This is a confirmed issue with Project 2019. Microsoft Project developers are aware of this problem but have not released any information about if and when the issue will be resolved.

Test results with the February [monthly channel] update (Version 2201 Build 14827.20158 Click-to-Run) show some improvement depending on paper size selection and orientation. Release notes for Project can be viewed at: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/officeupdates/current-channel

As a workaround try this approach.

  1. Create a custom Date field (e.g. Finish1) with the simple formula

Finish1=[Status Date]

  1. Create a custom Flag field (e.g. Flag1) with this formula

Flag1=IIf([% Complete]=0,"no","yes")

  1. Set the option to use that formula for "task and group summary rows"
  2. Create four new Bar Styles as shown (or similar)

    We too have identified this issue in our environment as well. The workaround suggested caused some other issues, and I revereted back to what was there before the suggested work around.

    I have subscribed to the forum post - hopefully a resolution to this issue is identified soon!!

    Hi John

    Replying to this because i raised the progress lines as an issue elsewhere and was directed here.

    I have given this a go, and this is what i am getting. Is this correct or am i doing something wrong?

    Kyle Kilmartin,

    It looks like you've got it right but it's a little hard to tell since the tasks in the upper part are off to the left of the view. You also may want to turn off showing the critical path or perhaps change the color of the mock progress lines for easier visual reading.

    For reference, this is the test file I created for developing and testing the workaround. Ordinarily I would not display the "real" progress lines along with the mock progress lines as it makes it harder to see the mock progress lines but it does provide a visual comparison. Note, the two summary line mock progress lines are quite hard to see due to the thin line style I chose.

    This is what it looks like in Print Preview, which of course is the reason for the workaround.

    John

    I don't know how to use Project at all but one of my customers uses it daily, and since they subscribed to the E3 instead of the 2013 version, they are having issues with this progress line. It moves during scrolling and is never at the right spot when they print documents or make a PDF.

    I have already asked support for help on this and no one was able to provide a solution. The fact is that users NEED this to work, and this issue is making everyone lose time and credibility.

    Microsoft really needs to address this issue ASAP !

    aaaaaaaaaand our prayers must have been heard somehow...yesterday we updated the software one more time, and there came another version that seems to have fixed everything!

    Progress line is here every time and stays where it is supposed to be on the printed documents.

    I hope that this version has also fixed all the problems everyone here is experiencing :)
