Onedrive for Business: Photos Section Absent

I have a personal OneDrive account that shows a "Photos" tab in the left-hand navigation pane; photos that are uploaded there are recognized as photos and show up in a more album-centric manner (and, in fact, offer to generate automatic albums). However, on my OneDrive for Business (Education) account, no such option exists; OneDrive won't recognize folders consisting entirely of photos (JPEGs), and treats them in an old-style Windows XP manner using the browser-based access, forcing one-by-one viewing.

On my personal (free) OneDrive, the options include Photos and PCs (here),

...whereas my paid OneDrive for Business shows only four of these (below):

Does anyone know how to force OneDrive to create/activate a "Photos" section to take advantage of this richer photo viewing/editing experience that is available in the free OneDrive? It's rather pointless for me to share photos in this manner when I could just share a Google Photos album much easier (than Business, that is--the free OneDrive works fine).

Thanks!

    Hi Sam,

There is no method to create or activate a “Photos” section in OneDrive for Business as it in OneDrive because OneDrive for Business and OneDrive are different.

OneDrive is a personal cloud place to storing your own personal files while OneDrive for Business brings teams together to collaborate on documents and other things. They have a different view pane for different purposes. You can take a look at OneDrive for Business vs OneDrive – Know the difference to learn more information.

Well I'd like to suggest MS add Photos to the Business version.  For one thing, many businesses use photos.  For another, some people may prefer to have the business account for its features and additional storage (and pay extra for that, I would add), but still want to manage their personal photos there.  It's a little "Apple-like" (yes, ouch) to be so controlling of user choices.  Why not give us the option.  Business users who don't want the photos can ignore it.  (If you really wanted to be fancy, you could even have an option to show or not now that within the Admin settings, but let's not ask for too much at one time.)  Hint: the more you give people, the more they will like you (and it's not like you have to create this feature - you already have it, you just have to enable it in the Business version!).  Thanks for considering these suggestions.

I agree with JustADude. I run multiple businesses, one of them is a digital media agency which also does photography. Being able to use the photo features of the consumer version of OneDrive would be amazing.

My other business is a home construction company, and once again, it'd be great to be able to use OneDrive for Business to manage all the photos for each house that goes on the market.

OneDrive for Business is supposed to be used for personal use (personal as in for a single user) and Groups is supposed to be for teams to collaborate. I feel like Microsoft is just lost when it comes to this. They don't even follow their own guidelines or listen to their paying customers.

Sorry to say, Kimi, but your answer is very ignorant and stupid. Of course photos are important to most businesses. Please implement a dedicated photo section with any-device-upload and photo editing to OneDrive for Business asap!

    Thank you Kimi,

I have since found out that OneDrive for Business DOES NOT have the ability to backup or store to OneDrive for Business using a smart phone camera or other device camera.  We already have the app installed on the smart phones and they have access to their documents to edit, share, send, store, etc. but you CANNOT backup, store, or share images from your camera to OneDrive for Business on the phone itself.  You can only do that with OneDrive personal (and all other cloud services).

On another MS forum this was confirmed and a link to 'vote' for this feature to be added:

Vote to Allow automatic upload of photos and video from mobile clients to OneDrive for Business

So at this moment, the only solution is to use something other than OneDrive for Business for picture & video uploads from mobile devices, but 'best business practices' does not allow for personal accounts. It's unfortunate, and surprising, that this 'feature' in only available on personal accounts and completely missed on the business side where photos and videos are increasingly a part of business processes.

Kimi, thank you again for your reply and time on this problem.

    Tonia
