Yesterday everything was working. Today, when I open documents I have always used, the documents open in compatibility mode, even though they were opened and saved in Office 365 previously. What is going on?

What do you see, exactly, when opening this document? If it opens in Read Mode, some options won't be available, but you can press ESC to go to Print Layout view.

I am aware that the documents were created a long time ago, with an earlier version of Word. I have never had any problems opening and editing those documents. There is no "convert" menu item in compatibility mode, only the viewing of the document. The problem is that I have a document which has numerous addresses, which I use as a template to print out individual envelopes for specified addresses.  I cannot access the menu to allow envelope printing. I can only access the "print" function, but that prints out all the addresses. I only want to select one address and print out one envelope.

My issue is why has this occurred now, when the other day I could do what I wanted? Now all my documents show in compatibility mode. With no way to "convert" as you have indicated can be done.

If the documents were created in an earlier version of Word, or from a template from an earlier version of Word, that is the way [Compatibility Mode] that they will be opened.

If you want to convert the file to the latest format, with the file open, go to File>Info>Compatibilty Mode and click on Convert.
