This "important" windows 7 update keeps failing; CSR plc - Audio - Bluetooth Stereo Audio

I have no idea why but it repeatedly has tried to install without success.  Do I have to remove bluetooth first?

Thanks

Sam

I had the same problem. It is caused by the recent Bluetooth stereo driver update distributed via Windows Update.

I have two working solutions. The first and better one ist to use System Restore to get to a point before the update. If this works you're ok. I had to try different points until I found a good working one.

The second way as a temporary fix is to  click the BT Stereo Audio entry in the device manager or if not present the Unknown Device, Properties, Driver, Update Driver, Search on this Computer, Use a List on this computer, Audio & Video devices, and there the old driver not the new 4.x one.

I am not sure of the wording above, it should be close but i do not have an english OS right now here.

After that and on reboot it will ask you again for a driver just click Don't install a driver now and everything should work fine.

The second method i a kludge because it will ask on reboots but it is just one click and better than nothing. That's why the system restore method is better. Of course don't install the Bluetooth Stereo Driver Update from Windows Update again until it gets fixed or the same problem will reappear.

Greetings and good luck mine works again

Thanks Overlord71,

This worked for me.  I found that under my "Sound, Video and game controllers" in the Device Manger had a failed driver icon next to my "Bluetooth Peripheral Device".  I used your instructions to install a new driver (or old one) and was given a list of of 2 choices... "Bluetooth Stereo Audio Version: 3.0.0.183 (7/10/2008)" and a "Bluetooth Stereo Audio Version: 5.0.11.0 (8/13/09)".  I chose the Ver.3.0.0.183 and my BT headphones now work in Stereo again, and I no longer have the failed driver icon.  I just need to make sure I dont try to do the new update again.  Thanks a million!

I recently had to re-load my Windows 7 OS . . . after which I couldn't get my BT-300 Bluetooth headset to work.

All the usual messages . . . "peripheral bluetooth device" . . . "Windows couldn't find drivers onlne"

Tried all the troubleshooters . . . . tried the manufacturers website - couldn't find drivers

Someone on here mentioned the same problem after a Windows Bluetooth Update

For some reason, I had the idea of updating the Bluetooth drivers from Broadcom here . . .

    http://www.broadcom.com/support/bluetooth/update.php

    and . . . .. it worked !!! . . . . I'm in Bluetooth headset heaven again

Maybe this will help some peeps out there . . . . good luck.

Caution: to be safe, in cases like this, at least always first export these keys. That said, I have not seen any problems in this particular case.

To switch from version 3.0.138 and earlier to 4.x.x and later, delete

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\bthav

    in the registry and reboot

To swith back (which I prefer), delete

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\csr_a2dp

    in the registry and reboot.

Background: csr changed the a2dp driver, but they used the same service name (bthav). This causes a conflict.

All these drivers can be downloaded on the windows update catalog

I am having the same problem with Vista SP2.

    CSR plc - other hardware

    • Bluetooth stereo Audio

    Installation date: 10/26/2009 11:09AM

You may need to restart your computer For OS update to take effect.

    Installon status: Failed

Error details: Code 800F020B Get help with this error

    update type: Optional

CSR plc Other hardware software update released in August, 2009

The error says that I already have a Bluetooth Stereo Audio device installed. I have deleted all of my devices through the Bluetooth Settings. I have uninstalled bluetooth and reinstalled it. When I startup, a bluetooth device wants a driver. I do not have any bluetooth devices on and discovery is off.

In the registry, I have dozens of devices. Is there any way to remove all traces of previous devices?

    Hi A.SamC,

Thank you for visiting Windows Answers Community!

In order to better understand your Windows Update issue, I need to ask few questions :

    a) what is the exact error message or error code?

    b) what is the KB number associated with the update?

    c) Are you trying to install from Windows Updates or it is just an application update?

    Waiting for your reply

    Thanks and Regards:
