2 days ago i upgraded my windows 10 to build 1903 , since then ,

randomly and during any activity (gaming , watching a video ..etc) ,

screen with the word "locking" in the middle appears for half a second and my laptop goes into sleep mode

and then i have to turn it on again

this never happened before the update , i tried to reset and fresh start but, nothing worked , and now i can't get back to previous build

what do i do ?

HELP , PLEASE

SOLUTION

Hey guys

So, I solved the issue (for me, at least) a long time ago but forgot to report back. My apologies

Basically,

Settings -> power and sleep -> additional power settings -> change advanced power settings -> battery

Then, change critical battery action and low battery action to do nothing both on battery and plugged in

I don't know if others already solved the problem In a different way, but i Hope that helps

Have a good day

i deeply appreciate your help , unfortunately

nothing worked from the links above

i already set (turn off display) and (put the computer to sleep) to never

system unattended sleep timeout is set to 30 min

screen saver option " on resume display log-on screen" is unchecked

to be more clear , my laptop doesn't shutdown , it gives me a screen like this ( made it with powerpoint but looks exactly the same) and then goes to sleep (why did i say sleep ? ) because when i turn it on again everything is still there the websites i was working on or the game i was playing and it does that on irregular intervals or randomly

Hi John. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 10 year Windows MVP here to help you.

This can be caused by Malware so see if this thread applies and if so try suggestions there: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

If this was caused by a Version Update then for 10 days you can roll it back in Settings>Update & Security>Recovery and then hide it until it matures using the Hide Updates Tool which is explained more here:

    https://www.howtogeek.com/223864/how-to-uninsta....

Let's take a look at all places where Windows can suspend to find the culprit:

Check closely your Display, Sleep and Hibernate settings in Power Options following this guide: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2843-change...

If your Power Options settings are set correctly then the next suspect is the screensaver which is mysteriously setting a 1 minute timeout to blank Screensaver when some Themes are chosen. Check that now at Settings > Personalization > Lock Screen > Screen Saver Settings.

This could also pertain to an issue of Unattended Sleep Timeout setting in Registry. See the Marked Answer here for what has worked for others: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

Whenever modifying the registry, first set a System Restore point: http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/how-t...

Try all steps here:  Stop computer from locking Windows 10 automatically

If System Unattended Sleep timeout is not present here's now to access it: https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/72133-add-s...

More troubleshooting when PC keeps shutting down:

    https://www.tenforums.com/general-support/66513...

    https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000689.htm

If you suspect overheating which can shut down the PC, then install CoreTemp to monitor temps from System Tray:

    https://www.thewindowsclub.com/core-temp-monito...

    https://www.pcworld.com/article/2365089/compute...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

I had this same problem, and searched high and low for an answer... with no luck. Coincidentally, I had been getting an error message that my laptop charger was bad. Then this exact same "locking" message started on my computer -- sometimes only 20 seconds after booting, other times 30 minutes or so. I couldn't even check check settings because it would just shut down with the same locking message and style as yours had. I finally pulled out the battery, and haven't had the error since. My power charger error also doesn't come up on boot... so I'm guessing my battery is simply bad. I've ordered a replacement, but until then can use the laptop as long as it's plugged it. Pull your battery and give it a try. If that works for you, maybe your battery is also failing?
