"We need to know who to send this to. Make sure you enter at least one name." Outlook Task issue

We use assigned tasks frequently, however recently when the person assigned to the task marks the task complete an error box pops up that says "We need to know who to send this to. Make sure you enter at least one name." with nothing more than an "OK" button below. When you close the box by way of the "x" or clicking "OK" the task marks itself complete however no notification is sent to the person assigning the task (even though their Outlook now shows the task complete). Please help.

    Hi all,

I want to inform you that we are definitely looking into this outlook task issue. It is currently being investigated.

For now the status is , since the issue is in the December PU the customer will probably want to revert back to November PU version 15.0.4771.1004. *** Note *** roll back office version is only a workaround.  For MSI the customer will need to remove the December PU, support.microsoft.com/.../3114349.

For Outlook 2016 MSI customers can remove the December PU support.microsoft.com/.../3114387.  C2R customers can revert back to November PU version.

I apologize for any inconvenience caused by this issue, and do appreciate your patience and understanding, and we will update you as soon as we have a possible resolution for this issue.

    Best Regards,

    Neo

    hi john,

regarding the feature assign task in the outlook client, i have done some tests and gotten the similar results to yours. when the assignee marks the task as complete, a window prompts as the screenshot shows and no notification is sent to the assigner.

different email systems process the task in different ways. as i know, this is exactly how this feature works with office 365 mailboxes. since the status of the task is synced properly, it’s safe to ignore the prompts.

let us know if you need any further assistance.

    thanks,

    chris

I am having this exact problem. It worked fine until recently- 2-3 weeks ago. nothing I know of has changed. I can't see any updates that have ran or anything. This worked for 7 months with office 365 and outlook 2013.  My 2010 clients still work. I am baffled

    • we use this feature extensively.

Basically the error message is not the problem for us- it is that completed notifications are not being sent out when a task is marked complete.  If you find an answer please share.

My case is being escalated up the Microsoft chain... but I am worried I am going to get an answer that its a feature not a bug.
