Is Edge password manager with the MS Authenticator secure enough?

So I am reading an article why "ALL" browser pwd managers are a bad idea & points to an article about "Redline", malware that steals credentials. Certainly developers can better harden & place in more security controls to ensure viability & security, do we really NEED to pay for basic 'secure" pwd management as well?

Password Manager in the Microsoft Edge is sufficient and you don't need any third-party program and when there is a spyware infection, they are using different ways to steal your password and even if you don't use password manager. It is good idea to make sure your Anti-Malware product is updated and running. Authenticator provides additional layer of protection which is a good idea in protecting your identity. In addition, in case your password has been leaked or stolen, Microsoft Edge has a Password Monitor feature which informs you about such incident. Have a look at Use Password Monitor to help protect your passwords in Microsoft Edge.

That depends a bit on what you're trying to secure against. Here's an article on the subject you might find interesting: Browser Password Managers: Threat Models (textslashplain.com) The author is a senior Microsoft program manager, specializing in security.

When it comes to security, we never could claim you are 100% protected but we could make it harder for hackers to break into your system and steal your password and even if they steal it and it has been leaked using this method, you will get notification. Microsoft is also working on get ride of passwords with new technologies and in the future you might not need to worry about passwords.

Yes, we're all waiting with baited breath for the utopian passwordless days, in the mean time...

Thanks for the response, generally I am content with the combination & the addition of M/2FA for highly secure requirements, even though that has been broken too.

Right & I generally agree & have been VERY content (comfortable) with MS Authenticator as my pwd mngr & I use Edge for my Amazon tablet, Win PC & Android phone.

I also have the pwd monitor / scanning service enabled in Edge as well.

So I was surprised when I read an article in a rather credible online magazine that not only contradicted my preferences entirely, also no mention whatsoever to Edge & Authenticator as possible solutions towards a pwd mngr.
