Downloaded from MS software catalog and installed kb4524569 (SSU) and kb4524570 ("service pack"); applied to v1903 18362.449. Winver still shows v1903 18362.476. What's up with that?

    Hi,

My name is Gary an independent advisor and I would be happy to help you out with your concern,

As you've installed the servicing stack update for 1909, it is most likely that you've implemented the said components although you would still have the 1903 feature update. To apply the feature update of 1909 you'd either have to update through the settings app or by performing an in-place upgrade.

    1. Go to start menu and open settings with the gear icon
    2. Open Updates and security settings
    3. Choose Windows update
    4. Click on check for updates

    ________________

I would recommend a repair install/in-place upgrade to override and fix system components while setting the system to the latest version of windows 10

    1. Open this link https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-downlo...
    2. Select Download tool, and select Run. You need to be an administrator to run this tool.
    3. On the License terms page, if you accept the license terms, select Accept.
    4. On the What do you want to do? page, select Upgrade this PC now, and then select Next.
    5. After downloading and installing, the tool will walk you through how to set up Windows 10 on your PC.
    6. When Windows 10 is ready to install, you'll have an option to keep your personal files and apps, keep personal files, or to keep nothing during the upgrade
    7. The process would take a while and may consist of multiple reboots. Make sure that there won't be interruption within the process to make sure that everything would sort everything out

Let me know how it goes. :)

    Hello Gary,

    Hey, thanx for the info.

I had manually installed both the SSU and the 1903 -> 1909 "service pack" (kb4524570) from the software catalog and was expecting that the version would change to 1909 but it did not; I usually install major updates this way so I do not have to download the same stuff for each of the Windows 10 computers I have strewn throughout the house.

It looks like I'll eventually have to do a over-install using the ISO from the MS media creator site as in the past but Microsoft hasn't updated that site to the November update yet and I don't quite trust any ISOs obtained from other websites. I don't know if the 1909 enablement package would fix this but I can't get that from the software catalog site anyway as MS has said one cannot do that.

I checked for updates a couple of times but after my manual install of the "stuff," the update app. "says" I am up-to-date.

So much for the 1st Windows 10 "service pack."

    Thanks again for the reply.

    Bob

KB4524570 is CU which update build 18362.xxx to build 18362.476.

To get 1903 switched to 1909 you have to install KB4517245, which is

'Windows 10, version 1909 Enablement Package

    Hello GaryS25 & Pauli O,

    I spoke too soon!

I had checked for updates with the update app at least three times over a period of a couple of hours and it kept "saying" that I was up-to-date; but, just moments ago, I went back to the update app to see what had gotten installed and the "Feature Update to Windows 10, version 1909" was listed.  I did not wait long enough for "things" to settle down I guess.

Anyway, I download the enablement (kb4517245), it got installed, and now I'm listed at version 1909, 18363.476.

Thank you both for your help and I'm sorry I got impatient.

Wonder why Microsoft does not offer kb4517245 through the update catalog or anywhere else?  Why does it have to come thruthe update application?  Anyway, as long as I can still manually get major updates from the catalog and wander them offline thru the house, life is good.

    Thanks for your time.

p.s. I like that "update" definition....
