Microsoft is able to find and match faces in pictures but is unable to compare file sizes + hashes to isolate and help me manage duplicates?

The recommendation is non-workable, especially for those of us with years worth of files+images. This is a seriously important missing feature for a service that in most other ways is an indispensible part of our online lives.

    Hello Daniel C,

I'm Shalom and I'd happily help you with your question. In this forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

To remove duplicate files and pictures from your OneDrive, you can follow these steps:

    • Sign in to OneDrive: Visit the OneDrive website and sign in with your Microsoft account.
    • Access Files: Navigate to the folder where you suspect duplicates exist. You can also search for specific file types (e.g., ".jpg" for images) to narrow down your search.
    • Identify Duplicates: Look for files with identical or similar names and content. Pay attention to file sizes and dates to help identify duplicates.
    • Sort Files: Use the sorting options available in OneDrive to arrange files by name, date modified, size, etc. This can make it easier to spot duplicates.
    • Compare Files: Open suspicious files side by side to compare them visually. Look for identical content or minor variations that indicate duplicates.
    • Delete Duplicates: Once you've identified duplicates, select them and choose the "Delete" option. Alternatively, you can move them to the Recycle Bin for temporary storage before permanently deleting them.
    • Empty Recycle Bin: After deleting duplicates, don't forget to empty the Recycle Bin in OneDrive to free up space.
    • Prevent Future Duplicates: To avoid accumulating duplicates in the future, consider organizing your files systematically, naming them consistently, and regularly reviewing and cleaning up your OneDrive.

    Best Regards, Shalom
