Windows 10 sleep problems

Ever since the features update to Windows 10, version 2004, on June 12, 2020, the sleep function on my new (Dec, 2019) ASUS laptop has not functioned correctly.  After my laptop goes to sleep, when I try to wake it up, I get a blank white screen with no functionality, i.e. no buttons function, even touching ctrl-alt-delete won't bring up the Task manager.  Occasionally I get a strobe-like flickering screen when my laptop wakes up.  I can discern no difference in when I get one response vs. the other. The only way to get my laptop to function again is to reboot, which has resulted in losing data in Notepad and other programs.  Also after this update, 1/2 the time when I boot up my computer, I get a frazzled screen.

How can I repair the sleep function so that I no longer lose data?

Thx,

m2

Thanks, but I tried your solution, returning the power plan to default settings, and all the solutions mentioned in the link you sent, except for the one which suggested downloading an app to check the device drivers.  Unfortunately the problem persists.  I'm concerned because I was in the middle of running a virus scan when this happened.

However, I noticed something else which might indicate something else is going on:  when I mouse around the white screen I get when I try to wake my computer up, I noticed that it changes from pointer icon to hand, indicating I'm on a webpage link.  I've clicked on those links and occasionally my computer wakes back up, and when it does, new programs have opened up, and the virus scan I was running had stopped and disappeared.

Why would my screen go white when I try to wake it up?... and how can I be opening and closing programs on a white screen when I can't even see what I'm doing?

    Please help.

    Thx,

    m2
