I have a new computer which came with a trial version of Office 365. However I have installed Word 2019, Excel 2019 etc. When I open a file it asks me to activate Office 365 which I cancel and then I can open with Word 2019 etc. Is there a way that I can open files directly with Word 2019Offic or Excel 2019?

    Hi Richardwailes,

I am an independent advisor and an Office user like you, and I am hoping to help you out with this.

I have a couple of suggestions.

    1. You can change the default program that the files open with to the activated Word 2019 that you have installed.

On the Start menu, select Settings > Apps > Default apps.

To choose default apps by file type (eg. docx or xlsx). scroll down and select Choose default apps by file type.

I believe the current default app may be set to the Microsoft Office 365 Trial app, and you can change this to the installed versions of Word 2019 and Excel 2019 instead to avoid this.

    1. You can try to uninstall the trial version of Office 365.

To do this, in the search box on the taskbar, type Control Panel and select it from the results.

Select Programs > Programs and Features.

Press and hold (or right-click) on the program you want to remove and select Uninstall or Uninstall/Change. Then follow the directions on the screen.

I hope this has helped you. If this is not what you are looking for, please reply and let us know and we would be happy to look into providing some different suggestions!

    -Ashton
