The main danger when changing the HWID on a PC is that pre-installed Windows would become deactivated and there would be no way to re-activate Windows without purchasing a new Windows licence.

But I've seen in another post that going directly into the registry to change it can actually be risky to your device. Because of this, I now ask for the risks in more detail.
