How do I change the MTU setting in Windows 7?

I need to change the MTU to 1458 to work with my router.

I cannot find where to do this in Windows 7...

    having typed in (netsh interface ipv4 set subinterface "Local Area Connection" mtu=nnnn store=persistent) i get the message element not found can someone please explain what this means becuase when I type (netsh interface ipv4 show subinterface) I get the value of 1500 (default value) which shows that the element is there hope someone can help thank you

    Are you an admin user when you run the command that is failing?

    You also might try this...

    1. Open a command line window as an Administrator (ie. right click on All Programs > Accessories >Command Prompt and select Run as administrator) ...
    2. Type the command netsh and wait for prompt
    3. Type the command interface and wait for prompt
    4. Type the command ipv4 and wait for prompt
    5. Type the command set subinterface "Local Area Connection" mtu=xxxx store=persistent
