Connecting a Gmail account to Outlook 2021

I cant figure out why in some cases it works, and other cases it doesnt. I'm adding a second gmail account to my Outlook. I have IMAP settings turned on. I have tried both having POP turned on and off.

The error keeps saying that I have to configure IMAP settings within the Gmail account as its not configured properly. However theres only one option to select IMAP to be either on or off. Am I missing something here? Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks

    Dear Aron Moelich

    Thanks for choosing Microsoft Community.

Based on your description, I know the scenario you met. I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble connecting your Gmail account to Outlook. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

    1. Make sure that you have enabled IMAP in your Gmail account. You can do this by going to your Gmail settings, clicking on the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab, and then selecting "Enable IMAP".
    2. Double-check that you have entered the correct incoming and outgoing server settings in Outlook. For Gmail, the incoming server should be "imap.gmail.com" and the outgoing server should be "smtp.gmail.com". Make sure that you have also entered your full Gmail email address and password correctly.
    3. Try disabling any antivirus or firewall software temporarily to see if they are blocking the connection between Outlook and Gmail.
    4. If none of the above steps work, you can try removing your Gmail account from Outlook and then adding it again. To do this, go to File > Account Settings > Account Settings, select your Gmail account, and then click "Remove". After that, click "New" to add your Gmail account again.

Hope this can help. If these cannot work, please be kindly to provide me the detailed screenshot about the error page you are getting. I will continue to help you based on the information you provide. Your understanding and co-operation are highly appreciated.

Thanks for your precious time. Have a nice day.

    Sincerely,

    Katherine

Make sure Outlook is up to date. We had a similar problem, and by switching to M365, it worked.
