When you install windows you can enter the product key and the correct edition (Pro) should be installed based on the product key you enter.

If you have Pro edition installed now then the other user detailed post covers using the product key.

If it still doesn't work get ShowKeyPlus from the Store and enter the key at Check edition in the app. Does it verify a Windows 10/11 Pro licence.

Assuming the key is not VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T this is a generic key and cannot be used to activate windows.

    Hi there, julian! Marc here.

Thanks for reaching out! If you already have a valid product key for Windows 11 Professional, activating it is straightforward. Here’s how you can do it:

    > Open Settings: Press Windows key + I to open the Settings app.

    > Go to Activation Settings Click on System > Activation Select “Change product key”

    > Under Activation State, click “Change” next to Change product key

    > Enter your 25-character Windows 11 Pro key. It looks like this: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

    > Click Next, then Activate

    > If you've entered the key and it's not working, make sure: You're connected to the internet. also the key is for Windows 11 Professional, not another edition (like Home or Enterprise)

    > You can also run the Windows Activation Troubleshooter: Go to Settings > System > Activation. If you see Troubleshoot, click it and follow the prompts

If you still run into issues, feel free to reply with the error code or message you're seeing. I’ll be happy to help further!

    Best regards,

    Roshonda Haynes,

You can use the generic key to complete the upgrade process from Home to Pro edition but to activate you need to buy a licence.

Make sure windows is offline (disconnect form the internet) and enter the key VK7JG-NPHTM-C97JM-9MPGT-3V66T at Change product key in Settings. Follow any prompts and restart then go back online.

It should activate Pro edition with a valid licence.
