Unable to sign into personal account in Microsoft 365/Office Mac

Hi there,

I previously used my device with my school provided Microsoft account, but am no longer in that school and am attempting to sign into my personal account. I receive this error even after reinstalling Microsoft office (edited to remove personal information):

AADSTS50020: User account '[personal-email]@gmail.com' from identity provider 'live.com' does not exist in tenant '[School-Division]' and cannot access the application 'd3590ed6-52b3-4102-aeff-aad2292ab01c'(Microsoft Office) in that tenant. The account needs to be added as an external user in the tenant first. Sign out and sign in again with a different Azure Active Directory user account.

what should my next step be?

Thanks,
Luca

Hello,

Thank you for coming to the forum. My name is Fuad, and I'm happy to help you in the best way I can.

Can you please do the below?

First, check if your macOS is updated. Please is there is any pending update, kindly update it.

Then go to the app store and check if your Office applications (Word, Excel and the rest) have updates. If they do, kindly update them.

After the above, download the Office Licence removal tool, run it and click next > next to remove the licence on the device, then reboot.

Click below to download the tool: https://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=849815

You can read here for more details and steps: https://support.office.com/article/b032c0f6-a431-4dad-83a9-6b727c03b193

To add it back: Open any Office app such as Word and select Sign In. If you're already editing a file, go to File > New from Template... > Sign In.

I kindly await a reply for a follow-up

Best Regards Fuad

The error message provides a clue.

You are trying to access Microsoft services provided by your school, when you no longer have access to those services. Your liveID does not entitle to use service provided by the school and hence the error message.

Are you using the copy of Microsoft Office that was provided by the school? Or did you buy a new copy after leaving?
