Wireless Laser Mouse 8000... Charging Problem

I'm near at my wits end. Place the mouse in the charging cradle, the light begins to blink green, and then about 30 seconds later it starts to blink red. Tilt the rear of the mouse up an inch and re-seat the mouse into the cradle, blink green, blink red. Loop. I have reinstalled my Intellimouse software and I have replaced the rechargable battery but neither have helped. HELP! I can't charge my mouse without wanting to throw it out the window!

I've had similar problems getting the MS 8000 mouse to charge.  These were all solved by cleaning the charging contacts on the mouse with a pencil eraser.

    Hi grinnz,

There may be a connection problem in the battery compartment or on the recharge base.

Step 1: Confirm that there is no connection problem. To do this, follow these steps:

    a. Open the battery compartment, and check for any obstructions or corrosion. Remove or clean it as necessary.

    b. Check that the batteries are inserted in the correct direction and that there is a solid connection.

    c. If this is a rechargeable device, check the recharging base or cable for any loose connections, obstructions, or corrosion.

Replying to both suggestions, thank you both for your replies.

To Bob... I did use a pencil eraser but it did not solve my problem.

To Syed... I followed your instructions and in fact completely rerouted the power wire into the charging base away so as not to be obstructed by any others. Unfortunately all of your solutions also failed to solve my problem. The mouse still blinks green and then red.

I suppose it's time for a new mouse at this point. It's too bad. It's a good mouse. But I cannot live with this charging problem. It's not a new problem. I've seen it documented in other places on the internet and nobody seems to have a real solution. I thought that I could finally get a good solution coming to a Microsoft specific forum. Oh well.

Ihave used it for the last 2 years and now I supposed that I understood the problem. The procedure is working for me so far ( 6 months or more ).Do not use batteries like Duracell, Energizer, etc. They discharge too fast and I noticed that inside the mouse, the electronic circuit that controls  the battery charge seems to depend on the voltage level of it. If the voltage level is very low, the circuit will not work properly and the charge will fail.

    I have used a special battery ( Eneloop - from Sanyo ).

    Read the article at http://www.eneloop.info/

You will understand why it is so special. You can find it at Ebay or Amazon.

    Very important:

    • the first time use a normal charger.
    • recharge once a week ( you may use the cradle now )
    • turn the switch off when you are not using the mouse

It is working with me !

After so much frustration, I decided to try charging it without the cover over the battery, then placed on the charging dock. It worked.
