Favorites in Photos

What does flagging a photo as "Favorite" in Photos do? I can't find anyway to search for "Favorite" as a parameter in File Explorer. How does "Favorites" function? What is it's purpose if not to filter search results?

Hi Ratboy, thanks for your question. I'm Graeme, a Microsoft Community expert and fellow user.

There should be a Favorites album in the Photos app which contains all the photos you've marked as favorite. The purpose is to allow quick access to your favorite photos.

Here's an article that might help you use the feature:

Let me know if you're having trouble finding the favorites album!

    Hi, Ratboy 1,

Are you using an application such as Lightroom? Or, are you referring to selecting Favorite option in Bing.com Images?

Or are you referring to Rating Photos?

Rating means it's one of your Favorite Photos or Videos.

    In File Explorer > Search

Type Rating > Select Star # to locate Favorites

I found the Favorites albums in Photos. However the photo I just flagged as a "Favorite" is not there. I double-checked the photo in File Explorer and "favorite" heart is still indicated, but it's not in the Favorites album. Is your explanation describing the following: (1) double-click a photo from File Explorer; (2) click the heart (Favorite); (3) then the photo is supposed to appear in Favorites folder of the Photos app?

Maybe I don't understand what the Photos app is. Double-clicking a photo from File Explorer opens the photo: is that in the Photos app? Do I have to somehow associate all the photos files in File Explorer with the Photos app in order to effectively use the "Favorite" flag?

I'm just going from File Explorer and double-clicking a photo. This opens the photo in (I assume) the Photos app, though nothing indicates that. I always assumed I was editing photos somehow just in Windows or File Explorer.

Thanks for the remind on using Ratings. I'd forgotten about that.

    You're welcome.

The edits do take place in Photos App unless you've installed a preferred Photp Imaging App. (PSP, Photoshop, etc..)
