Can anyone explain why Windows desktop manager eats 100% of my GPU??

I recently got a new Computer and my Graphics card is a RTX2060 Super 8GB

However i notice my system begins freezing or sometimes begins to stutter or both

And my screen turns black but windows is still running in the background

Or sometimes winndows just crahes

And i notice that Windows Desktop manager eats 100% of my GPU

If anyone has a solution or want to ask questions please do

    Hi Fishy15,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing this issue. I'm an Independent Advisor and consumer of Microsoft products just like you. Let me help you with your concern.

You may try the below steps:

    Disable Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling

    1. Go to Settings - System - Display and click on Graphics Settings
    2. Turn off Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling and then restart your PC

    Turn off HDR

    1)Right click Desktop Display settings

2)Look for play HDR games and apps. Turn this off and then restart your PC.

    Hope the above helps.

The tutorials cover every possible problem and reason for Desktop Windows Manager. Usually one will fix problems caused by it. If not then go over the system with the checklist and other steps I gave that will find and fix most any problem.

If any steps cannot be performed normally then try them in 1) Safe Mode with Networking (so you have internet) or 2) Safe Mode, accessed by one of the illustrated steps in this guide: https://www.digitalcitizen.life/4-ways-boot-saf.... You will need to use your password to get into Safe Mode as a PIN is not accepted.

If the problem is not happening as much in Safe Mode it points to a driver. It's so important to get the best possible Display driver that I'll give you everything that can be done to improve or replace the display driver:

Update the Display driver from the PC or Display adapter maker's Support Downloads web page for your exact model number, HP Serial Number or Dell Service Tag - from the sticker on the PC.

While there check also for newer chipset, BIOS/UEFI firmware (very important), network, sound, USB3 and other drivers, comparing to the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start Menu.

If this doesn't give you the latest or ideal driver for what you need, compare it to the driver offered by the Intel driver update Utility here: http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/...

or the Nvidia Update utility here: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=e...

or the AMD autodect utility here: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/P...

For Display issues one fix that is working is to Roll back or Uninstall the Driver on the Display Device > Driver tab, restart PC to reinstall driver.

You can also try older drivers in Device Manager > Display device > Driver tab > Update Driver > Browse > Let Me Pick.

Then you will know you've tried everything in addition to Windows Update drivers.

Adjust the screen resolution until it fits and looks best at Settings > System > Display.

Wow greg thats alot of infomation but thanks!

I still gonna have to test some tommorrow

I did some today and kinda gave up out of frustration Because of everytime windows Freezing to death

And logging in everytime  but Thank god that a password manager exist.

I have a BenQ RL2455 A screen i got back in 2015 and still use it.

And i got it mixed with a Computer with more Up-To-Date Components.

Here is my question. Does it matter to have a monitor that is i geus obsolete is the right word for it i gues?

    Anyway does it matter?

my montitor does not support HDR and stuff.

And a bit weird sometimes 1 of the links you provided me had me to go to NVIDIA control panel

Had to turn of a GPU accelerator whatever its called but did not have the option.

Some of the options i dont have it that is realy weird.

My windows is up to date idk if these guides are up to date or just Different.

You know im a bit curious whats the reason for Windows Destop manager and i quote *Trying to murder my GPU* Like whats the reason for it to use so much Graphics and even when im not doing anything just about to log in or taking a quick break it Freezes. It just makes no sense

Hey Fishy. I'm Greg, an installation specialist, 10 year Windows MVP, and Volunteer Moderator here to help you.

    1. See fixes for DWM using high or 100% GPU:

    1. Update your drivers and BIOS/UEFI firmware from PC or motherboard maker's Support Downloads web page, using the full model number, Serial Number or Dell Service Tag on sticker. Compare the latest drivers available for download with the ones presently installed in Device Manager reached by right clicking the Start button. Make sure you have the latest BIOS or UEFI firmware, Chipset, Display (Video), Sound, USB3, Bluetooth, Network and all other drivers, or else download and install the latest now.

Updating drivers from the Device Manager or Windows Update is rarely enough. The most basic thing we need to learn to maintain a PC is keep the latest manufacturer's drivers installed from their Support Downloads web page.

    1. Go over this checklist to make sure the install is set up correctly, optimized for best performance, and any needed repairs get done: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

Start with Step 4 to turn off Startup freeloaders which can conflict and cause issues, then Step 7 to check for infection the most thorough way, then step 10 to check for damaged System Files, and also Step 16 to test a new Local Admin account. Then continue with the other steps to go over your install most thoroughly.

    1. If nothing else works then do a Repair Install, by installing Media Creation Tool, open tool and choose to Upgrade Now. This reinstalls Windows while keeping files, programs and most settings in place, and is also the most stable method to advance to the latest version. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/m...

But remember that in Windows 10 everything depends upon the quality of the install, and Factory or Upgrade installs are inferior installs which most enthusiasts won't even run because they'd expect endless issues. Consider now or later doing the Clean Install in this link which compiles the best possible install that will stay that way as long as you stick with the tools and methods given: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wiki...

There is also an automated Fresh Start that reinstalls WIndows while shedding corrupting factory bloatware, saves your files, but doesn't clear the drive to get it cleanest: https://www.howtogeek.com/265054/how-to-easily-...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. If you'll wait to rate whether my post helped you, I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

crionsynx Thanks for the the solution but i have to disapoint you that it did not work.

I followed Option 1 I clicked on Graphics settings

But i did not see anything related to disable GPU scheduling

I saw something about Classic app and Universal app

Classic app wich i dont know about

Universal that lets me select a program that runs the GPU i think? i dont know

Option 2 did not realy help me.

I saw something about display settings but its advanced for me

As for Play HRD Games and apps. i think i already removed them before the problems showed up

    Maybe i did something wrong.
