Hello,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I request you to try the following methods:

Method 1:

I request you to try installing the game in compatibility mode.

Follow these steps to install the game in compatibility mode and check if that helps.

  1. Download the game from the manufacturer’s website.
  2. Right-click on the game setup file and click on ‘properties’.
  3. Click on the ‘compatibility’ tab and check the box ‘Run this program in compatibility mode for’ and select operating system from the drop down menu and proceed with the installation. Once this is done, restart the computer and check if the issue persists.

Method 2:

Uninstall and Reinstall the Graphics Card Drivers.

Step 1: Uninstall the Graphics Card Drivers

  1. Press “Windows Logo” + “X” keys on the keyboard.
  2. Click on “Device Manager” from that list.
  3. Search for the Graphics Card from the device list, right click on it and then select “Uninstall”. On the un-installation window, if you have an option: “Delete the driver software for this device” you may select that and then remove the corrupted drivers from the computer.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete it and then restart the computer if prompted.

After the restart, please go ahead with the next steps to install the latest drivers and check if that resolves the issue.

Update Driver Software from the Manufacturer’s website:

Step 2: Go to the Computer or Graphics Card manufacturer’s website and search for the latest Windows 10 drivers available for the Graphics Card model and then install it by following the instructions given in the website.

I hope this helps you. If you have any further queries, feel free to contact us. We will be happy to help you.

Thank you.

Hello,

I managed to install Doom 3 from my old cds onto my windows 10 alienware.  Unfortunately, when I hit Play, it says I need to log in with administrator privileges.  I AM administrator and have all the privileges except for the "special privileges" which you cannot change.  So I don't know what else to do.  This game worked fine on my windows xp.  The compatibility troubleshooter shows incompatibility still although game is fully installed thanks to the compatibility wizard.  Any suggestions?

So far, I have a beautiful gaming laptop and no success in getting most of my older games to work with windows 10.  Very disappointing.  I don't know if I want to repurchase the game from Steam.  Disappointing.

Thanks in advance for your reply...

DOOM 3 is fully compatible with Win10. I'm not using any compatibility options.

    • Have you installed the two patches - 1.3 & 1.3.1?

( I also have a mod called Extreme quality which I believe I installed some years ago. I don't recall which

site I got it from though.)

    Main Doom downloads page -

    https://www.fileplanet.com/31854/0/section/DOOM-3

    • This patch looks to be an update of the official patch, and is cumulative. It may be a better option

at this stage than using the original 1.3 & 1.3.1 patches.

[EDIT: I thought DOOM3 was not affected by the following, but because of your 'log in as admin' error

I decided to have a look at the disk, and it does have the secdrv.sys  driver used by SafeDisk.

However, I am not using a noCD, so the 1.3.1 patch may have disabled the DRM ?

EDIT: again - I have a note in my archives that says patch 1.3.1 does remove the need to use a fix .]

    • Regarding many other older disk based games....

MS has created a major issue with Win10 and older disk based games that use SafeDisk copy protection.

I have more details on MS's DRM Blocking in my post at --this thread--

(I also have notes regarding more 'traditional'  DRM issues in that post.)

THIS -  site has noCD fixes for most games.
