Note that disabling the service is not (any more) adequate for disabling the dreaded Windows Remediation Service: at some point Microsoft has added a scheduled task that starts "sedlauncher". To disable:

    1. Hit Win + R and type "taskschd.msc"
    2. Navigate to Task Scheduler (Local) > Task Scheduler Library > Microsoft > Windows > rempl
    3. Right click on the "Shell" task and select "Disable"
    4. Just to be sure, open task manager, locate "sedlauncher" and kill it

Hi R. I'm Greg, an installation specialist and 9 year Windows MVP, here to help you.

See fixes for high disk usage caused by this Windows Update here:

    https://www.askvg.com/what-are-sedsvc-exe-sedla...

    https://allthings.how/fix-sedlauncher-exe-disk-...

If the above doesn't help after several restarts, since we know the update responsible you can find it at Settings>Update & Security>Windows Update under Installed Updates, then uninstall from the link there, and hide with the Hide Updates tool downloaded from here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/2/2/f2...

You can also use System Restore to get before the problem began, then check for Updates with the Hide Update tool and hide them: http://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/how-t...

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let us know how it goes. I will keep working with you until it's resolved.

    Hi, R,

Read the Vishal Gupta's tutorial on the Software and yes, it can be Disabled or Uninstalled. These files and folders are used by Windows 10 update to make sure future updates and feature updates are installed without any issues in your Windows 10 PC.

I have the 100% disk usage problem & Task Manager shows that sedlauncher is the culprit. I'd love to be rid of it.

The problem is that I'm not clear about whether future updates might need it. Actually there are 2 questions:

    1. Is it required for future updates?
    2. Remediation Service suggests that it corrects something about the update. Why does sedlauncher need to run whenever the computer is on? Does it run in the background forevermore because the updated system could break down any minute now?

I guess the bottom line is:  What would be lost if sedlauncher is inactivated or removed?

A good Remediation Service would fix its own 100% disk usage issue

    Update (05-Feb-2019)

Got rid of sedlauncher & also Mobile Plans Background Task Host. Life is better...
