Troubles with accent on QWERTY keyboard

Hey everyone,

Since the Fall Creators Update I have troubles to input accents on my PC.

I have a QWERTY Mac UK keyboard. I used to be able to presse the [ ' ] key and then input a vowel to create a letter with an accent ([é] for instance) but since the update it doesn't work anymore.

Now whenever I press both the accent key and the vowel key I have [ 'e ] that is displayed, instead of the accented letter.

I tried multiple language and keyboard options and it still doesn't work. I can however press Ctrl + [ ' ] and then a letter to have an accent, but it only works in word.

I live in France so accents are vital, can anyone help ?

have a QWERTY Mac UK keyboard

Start the On-Screen Keyboard (osk.exe) to see if its keycaps match yours. But you can have more than one keyboard configured.  You add one in Region and Language and you can switch between them using  Win+Spacebar.

Then another tool you can use to do your typing with is a Touch Keyboard.  Unfortunately you can only have the TK without the OSK but an advantage might be that the so-called Chiclet keyboard layout might let you discover multiple alternate related possibilities under one of its keys.  For example for an é you would press and hold the E key and then tap the accented e that you wanted.  Etc.

tried multiple language and keyboard options and it still doesn't work.

    If you need help you need to give a better symptom description than "doesn't work".   ; }

    Hi Pillow,

Conflicts with the keyboard settings after the update is one of the possible reasons why you are having issues creating an accented letter using your keyboard. For us to assist you better, kindly answer the questions below:

    • Which OS build number of Windows 10 is currently installed? To check, press the Windows key, type winver, and press the Enter key.
    • What application or platform are you trying to input this character?
    • What is the make and model of your keyboard?
    • Have you tried updating the keyboard driver?

Meanwhile, you can try to use the Character Map and check if you will be able to insert the accented letters. The Character Map was made to allow users to insert special characters on their documents. To open the Character Map, You can follow these steps:

    1. Press the Windows key + S to open Search Bar.
    2. Type Character Map, then click it.
    3. When the application launches, look for the special character that you want to insert on your document.

We'll be looking forward to your reply.
