Dear Moyshi,
Hello! Welcome to the Microsoft Community. I'm glad to be able to help you. If I don't understand your question, please let me know immediately.
I understand your confusion about the problem that you can't play 4K HDR normally on Edge browser and Netflix. You have confirmed that you have subscribed to the Netflix plan that supports 4K HDR and installed the HEVC codec, but the display still does not support 4K HDR. The following are possible causes of the problem and some suggested solutions:
- Monitor Settings
-Make sure HDR is enabled: On Windows 11, make sure to select the monitor you are using in Settings > System > Display, and then enable HDR.
-Adjust the resolution: Make sure that your home screen uses a resolution of 2880x1800 and supports HDR and HDCP 2.2. You can try to adjust the screen zoom to 100% or the default scale to avoid the video playback quality being affected by the zoom setting.
- HEVC codec check
-Check the HEVC codec: I understand that you have reinstalled the HEVC codec from the app store, but please make sure that the version you installed is the latest and it is from the Microsoft store.
-HEVC supports detection: From the information provided, it seems that your GPU does not support Dolby Vision and HDR10. If the monitor or graphics card you use does not support these standards, Netflix may not be able to play 4K HDR properly.
- HDCP 2.2 support
-HDCP 2.2 (high bandwidth digital content protection) is a necessary condition for streaming media services to play 4K content. You mentioned that your screen supports HDCP, but the Edge display does not. The possible reasons are:
-Problems with the second monitor: Even after you reconnect the second screen, the system may not correctly detect HDCP 2.2 support. Try to play 4K content when only using the home screen, and make sure that no other external monitors affect the detection.
-Check the HDMI cable: Make sure to use an HDMI cable that meets the requirements of HDCP 2.2, especially in the case of an external monitor. Incorrect cables may lead to different video quality.
- Graphics card driver
-Update the graphics driver: Sometimes the graphics driver may affect the support of HDR and 4K video. Please make sure that you have installed the latest driver for your graphics card.Go to the driver download website provided by your notebook manufacturer (BIOS manufacturer for desktop computers), find the driver corresponding to your computer model and download and install it. If possible, we recommend that you use DDU uninstall tool to completely uninstall the old driver first, and then install the latest driver.
- Edge browser and Netflix
-Clear the Edge cache and Cookies: Sometimes the cache may prevent some functions from working properly. Try to clear the browser cache and ensure that the browser is up to date.
-Check Netflix settings: In Netflix playback settings, confirm that the streaming media quality is set to high, so that 4K HDR streaming media can be enabled.
Disclaimer: Your browser automatically saves temporary internet files to help pages load faster. Clearing this cache will sometimes fix website issues. Please back up all your personal files first, such as Favorites, to ensure you do not lose data.
- Windows configuration
-Reset Windows display settings: You have reinstalled Windows, but sometimes the display settings will be affected after the Windows update. Try to reset the display settings as follows:
Open Settings > System > Display. Select the default resolution in Display Resolution and enable HDR.
I hope the above information can be helpful to you. If you try the solution, feel free to tell me the results or the problems you encounter.
Best wishes
