getting my Surface stylus to act as pointer instead of pen

While working in Word and Excel, my stylus is stuck the pen mode, and I can't figure out how to get it to act as a pointer so I can use it to cut-&-paste, etc. Does anyone have a fix for that? (I'm working in Windows 10 and Office 2016.)
