You can migrate existing customer data from an existing ERP system to Business Central using the...

You can migrate existing customer data from an existing ERP system to Business Central using the data migration tools of RapidStart Services (Configuration Package). You should go deeper in Configuration Package story if your work with SaaS/Cloud version.
A good start point: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/admin-migrate-customer-data

I've created the example about use Whse. Phys. Invt. Journal (‘Warehouse Physical Inventory Journal’) and Configuration Package.
This is just my idea how to add Items with Lot and Expired Data to 'Bins' (WHITE) location.

As first step I create new company with No Data.

Next point set Company Information \ User Experience = Premium.

Default demo data in SaaS/Cloud version does not have WMS (‘Bins’) location [location WHITE].
We can use Predefined Configuration Package (GB.ENG.EXTENDED) for create necessary demo data.

===
Predefined Configuration Packages are good examples.
You could create master data with using GB.ENG.EXTENDED and GB.ENG.STANDARD packages.
And even more.. GB.ENG.EVALUATION use ‘Processing Rules’ option and as result produce some posted documents.

===

Well, start import GB.ENG.EXTENDED package. // Wait 10-15 mins

And next… Apply Package. // Wait 10-15 mins

Oki. Master data in our company. // we have Items with “Unit Cost” on ‘Item Card’ and etc.. [Item ‘80216-T’, Unit Cost = 0.50]

Set Company \ Display Name.

Setup yourself as ‘Warehouse Employee’.

Create new ‘Item Tracking Code’ (LOTALLWMS).

Set Item (‘80216-T’) \ Item Tracking Code = LOTALLWMS.

Well, now find Whse. Phys. Invt. Journal and fill a dummy line (do not register this ‘Journal’).
// I think good idea do not produce posted data directly… better fill ‘Journal’ and Post/Register ‘Journal’ manually…

You see ‘Warehouse Physical Inventory Journal’ does not have “Lot No.” and “Expiration Date” columns. We no need it for our example because we fill data via Excel. BUT you can add “Lot No.” via Personalise.
For “Expiration Date” you need create an extension. More details: https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/alexef/2018/05/22/how-to-add-a-field-to-item-card-in-business-central/

// for an extension remove dependencies: https://simplanova.com/ready-move-erp-cloud-dynamics-365-business-central/

Let’s start play with Configuration Package.

// Clear Included for all lines (System save Primary Key fields in any case)

Set ‘Include Field’ for necessary fields.

// “Validate Field” = no for “From Bin Code”

As result:

Export to Excel our Dummy line.

Modify Excel file. // add new lines and etc..

Delete our Dummy line. // ‘Warehouse Physical Inventory Journal’

Import from Excel and Apply Package.

Register ‘Warehouse Physical Inventory Journal’.

Go to ‘Item Journal’ and run ‘Calculate Warehouse Adjustment’.

28-Nov-2018
Today I’ve received message that my test SaaS tenant already updated to fresh [Update 20 (CU1)] build.
// about setup e-mail for notification and etc.. read Business Central Admin Center: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/administration/tenant-admin-center
Well, my additional event ([Event Request] Report 795 Adjust Cost - Item Entries, OnAfterPreReport) now in real SaaS tenant.
I’ve updated GitHub project.
.app file (Alexey Finogenov_ALF_Tracker_for_Adjust Cost - Item Entries_1.1.26046.0.app): https://github.com/finn777/ALF_Tracker_for_Adjust_Cost_Item_Entries/blob/master/AL/ALF_Tracker_for_Adjust%20Cost%20-%20Item%20Entries/Alexey%20Finogenov_ALF_Tracker_for_Adjust%20Cost%20-%20Item%20Entries_1.1.26046.0.app
As result the extension:

I have converted 'Report 60010 Costing Error Detection New [Version List=NAVDIAG17.10.06]' to 'D365 BC extension (Cloud)'. I used fresh Business Central (Fall 2018) cloud tenant.
The Costing Error Detection report is old tool that can be download from partnersourse site. This report can help you find common costing data problems.

As first step I imported this report to Dynamics 365 Business Central on premises and after that converted this object to AL object with use The Txt2Al Conversion Tool.

I used new ID (50130) for this experimental object.
Remember.. for AL extension you have free range 50.000-99.999, Object Ranges in Dynamics 365 Business Central.

You could download .app file from Github project: https://github.com/finn777/ALF_Costing_Error_Detection/blob/master/AL/ALF_Costing_Error_Detection/Alexey%20Finogenov_ALF_Costing_Error_Detection_1.0.0.0.app

In this blog post I am showing a small extension for Dynamics 365 Business Central.
App/Extension add possibility to track 'Adjust Cost - Item Entries' batch job (Elapsed Time, used filters).
+ the feature that add some sales orders/purchase orders (work for sandbox only, for test purpose).
GitHub: https://github.com/finn777/ALF_Tracker_for_Adjust_Cost_Item_Entries

===
Update 28-Nov-2018
Today I’ve received message that my test SaaS tenant already updated to fresh [Update 20 (CU1)] build.
// about setup e-mail for notification and etc.. read Business Central Admin Center: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/administration/tenant-admin-center
Well, my additional event ([Event Request] Report 795 Adjust Cost - Item Entries, OnAfterPreReport) now in real SaaS tenant.
I’ve updated GitHub project.
.app file (Alexey Finogenov_ALF_Tracker_for_Adjust Cost - Item Entries_1.1.26046.0.app): https://github.com/finn777/ALF_Tracker_for_Adjust_Cost_Item_Entries/blob/master/AL/ALF_Tracker_for_Adjust%20Cost%20-%20Item%20Entries/Alexey%20Finogenov_ALF_Tracker_for_Adjust%20Cost%20-%20Item%20Entries_1.1.26046.0.app
As result the extension:

+
Some key pictures from Visual Code:

P.S.
Use for version 13.1 or higher:

===

As first step I need to create Dynamics 365 Business Central Development Sandbox Environment.
More about Sandbox Environment https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/developer/devenv-sandbox-overview
I decide to use Azure VM (Container Sandbox).

Use specific template for create Azure VM (need to have Azure subscription). Template link: https://aka.ms/BCSandboxAzure

As result you should see on your Azure portal some VM:

After running VM wait 30-40 mins… scripts are creating all necessary installs/tools, as result desktop should be like this:

Well, now stop a bit and try to dream about what our application should do.
App should save Start Time before run code in 'Adjust Cost - Item Entries' batch job and save End Time after run code in 'Adjust Cost - Item Entries' batch job.
+ would be great to save which the Item filters has been set for this batch job.
And, of course we need to have some feature to build a bunch of documents (for sandbox only). This is allowing to us do some tests not for a few documents only.

AL App/Extension based on events. We need to have some events in object Report 795 (Adjust Cost - Item Entries).
More about events https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/business-central/dev-itpro/developer/devenv-events-in-al
Microsoft has done (and it is doing continuously) work on adding events to the standard code base.
If you see that standard code do not have necessary events just create new request (create new issue) via https://github.com/Microsoft/AL/issues (need to have GitHub account)
Something like this:

You could see 2 fresh requests for Report 795 events:

In case if fresh event requests not yet include in Azure VM Sandbox Environment, you could just add events (use DEV license and Object Designer).
All real SaaS tenants updates time-to-time and after some time period (~ a month or more) after GitHub request – real tenants should have your events and you could try to install your app on production.

In my case I add fresh events via Object Designer:

Well, Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is not yet exposing all the controls that you’re used to have from Microsoft Dynamics NAV pages.
In D365BC, many controls on pages are tagged with the #Advanced application area, that not active / not assigned today (September 2018).
Most of the #Advanced controls will be exposed in a coming update, October 2018.
Some links about it:

I need to use some hidden fields (“Automatic Cost Posting”, “Automatic Cost Adjustment”) from ‘Inventory Setup’ during my App test.
Okay, just activate Advanced via Object Designer:

Sometimes you could see the error during logon to Business Central:
---
Sorry, that didn't work
Could not open the 'My Company' company. Access is denied to company 'My Company'.
---

In such situation looks like that a user that try to log to Business Central does not have permission for company = 'My Company'.
It may be a few reasons for it: Administrator assign to the user the specific company (ex: CRONUS) only; When the 30-days trial license has expired, then you may not be able to get into My Company any longer. You will still be able to get into the Cronus company….
For fast check Try to log to CRONUS company directly.
Link a-la: https://businesscentral.dynamics-tie.com/b4435551-6604-4f84-8314-fb55020c658f?company=CRONUS%20DE

Some screenshots--

My test tenant has 2 Users:

‘Accountant’ user has permission for CRONUS DE company only:

‘Admin’ user has permission for ‘empty’ (All) company:

My test tenant has 2 Companies (CRONUS DE and My Company):

Now try to login with use ‘Accountant’ user:

As result error for ‘My Company’ company:
https://businesscentral.dynamics-tie.com/b4435551-6604-4f84-8314-fb55020c658f?company=My%20Company

And no any error for ‘CRONUS DE’ company:
https://businesscentral.dynamics-tie.com/b4435551-6604-4f84-8314-fb55020c658f?company=CRONUS%20DE

If you can direct login (used ‘problem’ user, ‘Accountant’ user in my example) to CRONUS DE company [use parameter in a URL link] then go to Up right corner, search button (near question mark). In search just type Users.. As result you should find User page…Check User permissions according company = ‘My Company’.

If you see specific company (CRONUS DE) then just find which user is ‘Admin’ (this user has access to empty ('all') company, and in common case SUPER line in Permission Sets) then logon to CRONUS (under ‘Admin’) and set empty ('all') company assigned for the 'problem' user (this user initially has access for Cronus company only).

Tips:

Default set: SUPER is assigned to first user

When you play with a few users… use browser In private mode, in such case you do not have 'cash reading' problem

One more idea from my colleague:
If all looks good, most likely the license is suspended or has been altered. Some of our beloved customers remove the license from the global admin but that account is still listed as OK in BC. You can (again) go to CRONUS and press get Office 365 users (can’t remember how it is called, but is the first icon on the Ribbon), it will pick up latest license. Or, remove the license from the user and add it again. You do need a global admin for this.

If we speak about an additional field/control...

As a first step, you must create a sandbox tenant from a normal tenant.
