How to consume WCF service / add service reference to Windows Phone 8.1:

Scenario 1: Building Windows Phone 8.1 Silverlight

Just right click on reference and click ‘Add Service reference’ and proceed with the way you are used to.

Scenario 2: Building Windows Phone 8.1 Runtime app / Universal app

For this one, a direct way doesn’t seem to be available in the time being, a workaround exists though that I thought I should share. To sum it up, you need to add a REST endpoint to your WCF service and then make REST calls from your Windows Phone app.

Here’s a quick tutorial from scratch

2.1 Creating a Windows Phone 8.1 Runtime app and a WCF Service Application:

1. In my SUPER SIMPLE example I created a blank app (Windows Phone) called “Consume WCF from WP8.1 Sample” and added a WCF Service Application to my solution and called it “REST WCF Service”

2. In the IService1.cs file, I only kept the below Operation Contract and removed the parameters for simplicity

3. In the Service1.svc.cs file, update the Service1 class that implements the new interface to be as below:

2.2 In Just 2 Steps, Expose a REST interface of our ‘REST WCF Service’ to be able to call it from Windows Phone 8.1 Runtime:

Step1:

Add the WebGetAttribute and WebInvokeAttribute to your OperationContract as in Line 6 the below example:

Step2:

It’s time to put the final touch to the WCF Service. To make it RESTful, we need to update the configuration ‘web.config’ file by adding endpoint behavior as in Lines 15-21  then Update the endpoint by changing the binding to webHttpBinding and finally point to the behavior created by adding the behviorConfiguration to the endpoint node as in Lines 2-15

2.3 Call RESTful WCF Service from Browser or Windows Phone 8.1 Runtime app

You can test your service from the browser or your Windows Phone 8.1 Runtime app to see the result.

Browser:

I launched it in Internet Explorer and my URL was https://localhost:18362/Service1.svc. Now, I can point to my REST url by appending the method name that I specified in the UriTemplate attribute (GetData) to my .svc uri –> https://localhost:18362/Service1.svc/GetData

You should get the following:

Sharing app identity means that:

• A customer who has purchased the app in either Store will be able to download the app from the other Store without paying for it again (even if the app prices are different).
• A customer who has bought a durable in-app purchase for the app on Windows will be able to use the same purchase without paying for it again on Windows Phone (and vice versa).
• The app can roam data across Windows and Windows Phone.
• The same WNS configuration settings for push notifications will apply (so that the app's notifications can appear on all devices).
• An icon will be displayed with your app's listing in the Windows Store and Windows Phone Store to let customers know that if they get your app in the Windows Store, they can also download it on compatible Windows Phones (and vice versa).

Case:

In my example here, I have an app entitled MEA Start Screen on Windows Phone and another one on Windows Store. Before the latest Store update, you could only reserve an app name on Windows Store so I need to associate my Windows Phone app (unreserved app name) to the Windows Store app (reserved app name)

Here’s how you can do it:

1. Go to https://dev.windowsphone.com/en-us, Sign in and select the app you want to link to Windows Store and click Update app

2. Go to App info, and click the drop down box to explore the available reserved app names Published in Windows Store, then select the app that you’d like to associate your phone app with.

3. Once you select it, you will get the below message in orange explaining the changes that will occur as a result of the app association. After reviewing the message, click Associate app button

4. This is the result you will get, the Package Identity Name and Windows publisher name

5. Scroll down. Click Save, then in the next page Press Review and Submit and you are done : ).

6. Check in a few hours, and you should find on the store a small icon

Les cartes de crédit représentent un grand handicap dans le domaine de l’IT, nombreux services et produits ne sont accessible que via le net et pour s’en acquérir aucun moyen pour détourner le payement électronique, c’est le cas notamment des différents Stores, que ce soit pour le Apple Store ou le Google Play.

C’était le cas aussi pour le Windows Store et Windows Phone Store où il fallait avoir une carte de crédit pour pouvoir créer un compte développeur et publier ses applications, la bonne nouvelle c’est que ce n’est plus le cas, plus besoin de carte de crédit pour créer un compte, l’abonnement peut se faire directement via Paypal, et même plus que ça, l’abonnement est totalement gratuit pour les étudiants via DreamSpark.

Comme dit la semaine passée, DreamSpark est un site de Microsoft qui offre aux étudiants différents produits et services Microsoft gratuitement dont la souscription à un compte développeur d’une année pour la publication d’applications Windows Store et Windows Phone, suivez les étapes suivantes pour avoir votre propre compte :

1. Demandez votre code pour l’inscription sur www.DreamSpark.com, vous trouverez les étapes à suivre grâce à l’article précédent.

2. Rendez-vous sur l’adresse https://www.dreamspark.com/Student/Windows-Store-Access.aspx et appuyer sur Obtenir un code maintenant, le code s’affichera de suite au-dessus du bouton

3. Rendez-vous sur l’adresse https://appdev.microsoft.com/StorePortals/fr-fr/Account/Signup/Join?wa=wsignin1.0 et appuyer sur s’inscrire

4. Choisissez la région Algérie puis appuyer sur s’inscrire maintenant dans la rubrique Particulier

5. Remplissez le formulaire avec vos informations personnelles et appuyez sur suivant, n’oubliez pas de choisir un nom d’éditeur, c’est le nom qui apparaitra dans toutes vos applications en tant qu’éditeur de l’application

6. Lisez les termes, acceptez les puis appuyers sur suivant

7. Sélectionnez utiliser un jeton, et c’est là que vous allez saisir le code obtenu via l’étape 2.

8. Vous remarquez que le montant total est 0.00, appuyez sur Acheter pour finaliser l’inscription

Vous avez maintenant un compte développeur avec lequel vous pourrez publier vos applications Windows Store et Windows Phone Store, vous ne pouvez que publier des applications gratuites, si vous voulez publier des applications payante il va falloir associer votre carte de crédit à votre compte, aucune charge supplémentaire ne vous sera comptabilisée.

Oui, cela est possible, tout étudiant à le droit de bénéficier de certains outils Microsoft gratuitement et d’autres services habituellement payants, parmi ces produits là je cite Visual Studio l’environnement de développement de Microsoft en version Professionnelle (prix aux alentours de 532$), en ce qui concerne les services vous aurez droit à un compte développeur gratuit (Windows Store et Windows Phone Store), sachant que l’abonnement annuel est à 19$, ainsi qu’un abonnement de trois mois sur le site www.pluralsight.com.

Les étudiants bénéficient de ces gratuités grâce à un code qui leur permettra d’avoir un abonnement annuel sur www.DreamSpark.com, l’abonnement est certes d’une année mais chaque produit téléchargé est activé sur votre machine à vie, à noter que durant cette année si des nouvelles versions d’un produit donné venaient à voir le jour, vous y aurez accès grâce à votre compte.

Pour obtenir un code d’inscription la procédure est simple, il suffit d’envoyer un mail à l’adresse a-amirat@microsoft.com avec comme objet [Code DreamSpark] en y attachant un scan de votre badge universitaire ou certificat de scolarité en cours de validité.

Une fois votre code obtenu il ne vous reste qu’à vous rendre sur le site www.DreamSpark.com et suivre les étapes suivantes :

1. Sur la rubrique DreamSpark pour les élèves appuyez sur "En Savoir Plus"

2. Appuyez sur "Créer un Compte"

3. Remplissez le formulaire et appuyez sur "Continuer la vérification"

4. Sélectionnez "Je possède un code de vérification", introduisez votre code et appuyez sur "Vérifier"

5. Maintenant votre compte et créé, revenez sur la page d'accueil et accéder à votre environnement de téléchargement

6. Voici les produits auxquels vous avez droit grâce à votre compte

Pour obtenir votre code d'inscription sur le Windows Store / Windows Phone Store gratuitement rendez vous sur le lien suivant : https://www.dreamspark.com/Student/Windows-Store-Access.aspx

Comme de coutume chaque année chez Microsoft depuis 2003, nous organisons l’Imagine Cup, une compétition technologique mondiale pour les étudiants qui œuvrent à changer le monde avec leurs solutions hardware et software.

Chaque année, les finales mondiales sont accueillies dans un pays différent, la compétition a fait déjà le tour des continents et se voit organisée cette année au cœur même de la maison mère de Microsoft, soit Seattle aux États-Unis, au fameux One Microsoft Way, Redmond. La particularité de cette année est le passage par les demi-finales panarabes à Doha, Qatar avant de passer aux finales.

L’équipe algérienne gagnante de la finale locale ira à Doha pour espérer décrocher une place aux finales mondiales, notre finale algérienne aura lieu le 26 Avril prochain où chaque équipe finaliste aura 10 minutes pour présenter son projet et 10 minutes pour répondre aux questions des membres du jury, la finale locale cette année se déroulera à l’Ecole Supérieure Algérienne des Affaire (ESAA), Les Pins Maritimes, Mohammadia.

Voici donc les six équipes finalistes avec des petites descriptions de leurs projets :

Nous avions annoncés le lancement de la compétition Windows 8, une tablette Windows 8 à gagner chaque mois pour la meilleure application.

Aujourd’hui il est temps de connaitre le lauréat du mois de Février, son application a été élue meilleure application dans une sélection de 20 autres applications

La meilleure application du mois de Février est Elemental Lab, développée par Mohammed Amine Ferg.

Et il gagne pour cela une tablette Windows 8 Acer Iconia w510.

L’application Elemental Lab est un jeu sympa où vous faites la connaissance de Mr Doctor et travaillez dans son labo dans une maison de fou !! Le but étant de créer à partir d’éléments existants de nouveaux éléments à utiliser pour d’autres créations.

Tout ce dont vous avez besoin c’est quelques très petites notion de base, pas spécialement dans la chimie mais d’une logique très basique, qu’obtient-on en fusionnant une paire de ciseaux avec du papier ?

Pourquoi son application a-t-elle été élue meilleure application du mois ? On voit à travers son application tout l’effort consacré à réaliser ce petit bijou, les éléments rassemblés dans son jeu, les petits dessins fait par lui-même pour illustrer ces éléments, une ambiance sonore plaisante, et l’adaptation parfaite de l’application que ce soit sur Laptop ou tablette Windows 8.

Nous avions annoncés quelques jours avant le lancement de la compétition Windows 8, une tablette Windows 8 à gagner chaque mois pour la meilleure application.

Aujourd’hui il est temps de connaitre le premier lauréat de la saison, son application a été élue meilleure application dans une sélection de 43 autres applications.

La meilleure application du mois de Janvier est Save The Hangman, développée par Hamza Djebli.

Et il gagne pour cela une tablette Windows 8 Acer Iconia w510.

L’application Save The Hangman est un jeu très connu qui n’est autre que le pendu, un jeu où il faut deviner le mot en un minimum de tentative possible sinon le personnage se verra pendu.

Il est possible de choisir différent niveaux de difficulté ainsi qu'une langue parmi les trois langues (Arabe, Français, Anglais)

Pourquoi son application a-t-elle été élue meilleure application du mois ? Le choix n’a pas été facile, mais a été fait selon différents critères qui sont le respect du design Modern UI, les fonctionnalités Windows 8 utilisées sur l’application, l’impact de l’application ainsi que la complexité de l’application.
