Gartner Highlights Key Predictions for IT Organizations and Users in 2010 and Beyond

Gartner has issued on 13/01/10 a press release with its key predictions for 2010 and beyond.

An interesting one is:

By 2012, 20 percent of businesses will own no IT assets. Several interrelated trends are driving the movement toward decreased IT hardware assets, such as virtualization, cloud-enabled services, and employees running personal desktops and notebook systems on corporate networks.

This seems to be like a bold statement especially if generalized towards the complete market. Small businesses could go into that direction unfortunately the press release does not provide more details about this. Nevertheless it indicates the strong believes of Gartner in the overall trend to come, in reducing IT assets.
