UI2: centralized control, while providing end-user configurability?
An extract out of the AMR Research below that might be of interest for those among you who are searching the holly grail since a while: providing the User with more configurability while IT stays in control.
Mutual benefit for IT, business, and the user
UI2 will provide the bridge that finally aligns and coordinates the efforts and interests of IT, the business, and the end user. While various mechanisms for portals and collaboration have tended in the past to serve single constituencies at the expense of others, UI2 will support a coordinated approach for mutual benefit.
In the past, companies had to make choices between top-down mechanisms like corporate portals to ensure consistency, compliance, and control at the expense of flexibility and usability, and collaboration environments and rooms, which fostered adoption and widespread use at the expense of compliance and control.UI2 will bring us the best of both worlds, while adding a social networking appeal:
* IT—Lets IT groups, rightly concerned about efficiency in managing their resources, unify integration and development efforts and ensure governance and security.
* Business—As a pervasive, cross-channel interface, UI2 becomes a place where companies can realize their long sought after but elusive 360-degree view of the customer. Through it, companies will better recognize patterns of use, capture collective knowledge and unique ideas, recognize processes that can be refined and automated, and sense and respond to customer demand.
* User— UI2 will be a way for users to manage their own tasks and time, dealing with information overload and avoiding distraction.
Better yet, UI2 will allow companies to exert a level of control and offer a level of freedom according to their inclinations and preferences. It will allow them to change the control-versus-freedom formula for different situations and audiences.
For those of you who see their wildest dreams finally come through, keep in mind this is the vision of UI2 expressed by AMR, not yet concrete reality...
