Guys,

there is a misconception about the need to enable the Outlook Anywhere in the Exchange 2010 servers as a pre-requisite to move mailboxes to the Exchange 2013 servers. Actually, if users don't need to access resources in the Exchange 2010 servers through OA you do not need to enable it. Sometimes, you can face a customer that has a security statement against the OA. In such scenario, you do not need to enable Outlook Anywhere in the Exchange 2010 servers only to migrate to the Exchange 2013 servers. Obviously OA must be always enabled in the Exchange 2013 servers "just" because this is the only way Outlook can connect to Exchange 2013.

Hi all,

This is my first post in 7 months and the first one in English here too, expecting an wide audience :) A few days ago, a Premier Support customer asked me, during an onsite work, for some way to execute Exchange based commands through Linux Terminal or some applet which emulates the Linux terminal. At the first moment, it could looks challenging. Run Exchange cmdlets on a Linux based OS??? However, it is much more simple than you can think at the first moment.

You know that is absolutely ok run Exchange cmdlets in any Windows command prompt, don't you? Starting with this, you just need to give to the Linux the ability to remote connect to its prompt, and the answer for that need is the Telnet Server. You need to install the telnet server feature in the server that is able to load the Exchange shell console, meaning a Windows computer with the Exchange Management Tools installed.

After telnet feature installation, you just need to connect from the Linux terminal or applet

telnet <telnet server ip address>

Now, in order to be able to execute the cmdlets, you need to load exchange shell console file. Let's get the mailbox list:

powershell.exe -psconsolefile "c:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\bin\exshell.psc1" -command "get-mailbox"

And using 2 or 3 commands in the same line, something like disconnects a mailbox and reconnects to another user:

powershell.exe -psconsolefile "c:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\bin\exshell.psc1" -command "$mailbox=get-mailbox;disable-mailbox user1 -confirm:$false;clean-mailboxdatabase $mailbox.Database.ToString();connect-mailbox user1 -database $mailbox.Database.ToString() -user "new user""

Note that all you need is split the lines using ";". You also can run some script placed on the Exchange server, which helps when we are talking about a Linux server that runs some application responsible for Identity Management:

powershell.exe -psconsolefile "c:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\bin\exshell.psc1" -command "Script.ps1"

I totally agree that kind of procedure is so much oriented for very specific scenarios...However I really like to think that is always good to know this such thing works... We don't know what will be the customer needs in the end of the day...

$objUser = New-Object System.Security.Principal.NTAccount("External Auditor")
$strSID = $objUser.Translate([System.Security.Principal.SecurityIdentifier])
$strSID.Value

2. Conceder acesso utilizando a chave de registro HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\EventLog\Exchange Auditing\CustomSD. Essa chave possui o seguinte valor padrão:

O:BAG:SYD:(D;;CCDCLC;;;AN)(D;;CCDCLC;;;BG)(A;;CCDC;;;SY)(A;;CCDC;;;S-1-5-21-3791421668-605469442-898867855-1105)(A;;CCLC;;;S-1-5-21-3791421668-605469442-898867855-1106)(A;;CCLC;;;S-1-5-21-3791421668-605469442-898867855-1107)

Basicamente temos a seguinte estrutura:

ace_type;ace_flags;rights;object_guid;inherit_object_guid;account_sid;(resource_attribute)

ace_type = A (allowed)
rights = 0x1 (read)

0x1 = read
0x2 = write
0x4 = clear

0x3 = read + write
0x7 = read + write + clear

(A;;0x1;;;S-1-5-21-3791421668-605469442-898867855-1154)

O:BAG:SYD:(D;;CCDCLC;;;AN)(D;;CCDCLC;;;BG)(A;;CCDC;;;SY)(A;;CCDC;;;S-1-5-21-3791421668-605469442-898867855-1105)(A;;CCLC;;;S-1-5-21-3791421668-605469442-898867855-1106)(A;;CCLC;;;S-1-5-21-3791421668-605469442-898867855-1107)(A;;0x1;;;S-1-5-21-3791421668-605469442-898867855-1154)

Alguns destaques:

Foco na monitoração, com um dashboard que foi simplificado para facilitar a monitoração em tempo real da saúde da Organização Exchange;

O Management Pack trabalha usando o recurso Managed Availability do Exchange 2013. Sabemos que o Managed Availability do Exchange 2013 é orientado à enriquecer a experiencia do usuário, efetuando inicialmente a tentativa de restaurar automaticamente o recurso afetado. Com o uso do Management Pack, qualquer tentativa de recuperação sem sucesso é escalada para o Management Pack como um alerta;

Basicamente, o dashboard exibirá alertas que indiquem que a saúde dos servidores não estão como esperado, exibindo alertas reportados pelos components do Managed Availabilty;

Active Alerts, exibindo os principais alertas;

Organization Health, demonstrando um resumo da saúde de toda a Organização Exchange;

O melhor é começar do começo...
