Use Jetstress to verify the performance and stability of a disk subsystem prior to putting an Exchange server into production. Jetstress helps verify disk performance by simulating Exchange disk Input/Output (I/O) load. Specifically, Jetstress simulates the Exchange database and log file loads produced by a specific number of users.

You use Performance Monitor, Event Viewer, and ESEUTIL in conjunction with Jetstress to verify that your disk subsystem meets or exceeds the performance criteria you establish. After a successful completion of the Jetstress Disk Performance and Stress Tests in a non-production environment, you will have ensured that your Exchange disk subsystem is adequately sized (in terms of performance criteria you establish) for the user count and user profiles you have established. It is highly recommended that the Jetstress user read through the tool documentation before using the tool.

Microsoft Message Analyzer 1.1 is a tool for capturing, displaying, and analyzing protocol messaging traffic and other system messages. Message Analyzer also enables you to import, aggregate, and analyze data from log and trace files. It is the successor to Microsoft Network Monitor 3.4 and Message Analyzer 1.0. Message Analyzer is a key component in the Protocol Engineering Framework (PEF) that was created by Microsoft for the improvement of protocol design, development, documentation, testing, and support. With Message Analyzer, you can choose to capture data live or load archived message collections from multiple data sources simultaneously.

Message Analyzer enables you to display trace, log, and other message data in numerous data viewer formats, including a default tree grid view and other selectable graphical views that employ grids, charts, and timeline visualizer components which provide high-level data summaries and other statistics. It also enables you to configure your own custom data viewers. In addition, Message Analyzer is not only an effective tool for troubleshooting network issues, but for testing and verifying protocol implementations as well.

FLEX is Office Visio stencil that contains more than 300 icons to help you create visual representations of Microsoft Office or Microsoft Office 365 deployments including Microsoft Exchange Server 2013, Microsoft Lync Server 2013, and Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013.

Creating visual representations of your Microsoft Office and Office 365 architectures, including Microsoft Exchange, SharePoint, and Lync is a helpful way to communicate your deployment. This Visio stencil provides more than 300 icons -- many depicting servers, server roles, services and applications -- that you can use in architecture diagrams, charts, and posters. These icons are primarily centered around deployments of Microsoft Exchange Server 2013, Microsoft Lync Server 2013, and Microsoft SharePoint Server 2013 as well as hybrid Office 365 deployments of aforementioned technologies.

The Microsoft Office Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT) is a program that provides a detailed report of your installed Office programs. This report includes many parameters about your Office program configuration and highlights known problems found when OffCAT scans your computer. For any problems that are listed in the report, you are provided with a link to a public-facing article (usually a Microsoft Knowledge Base article) on the issue so you can read about possible fixes for the problem. If you are a Help Desk professional, you can also save the report to file so that the report can be viewed in the Office Configuration Analyzer Tool on another client where the tool is installed. The Office Configuration Analyzer Tool also includes a command-line version that can be used to collect an OffCAT scan without user intervention.

Microsoft released a guided walkthrough troubleshooter (GWT) that is designed to assist when having issues moving a mailbox from an on-premises Exchange environment to Exchange Online (On-Boarding). This will also assist when moving a mailbox back on-premises from Exchange Online (Off-boarding).

The intent of this GWT is to take a tenant administrator step-by-step though the common troubleshooting tasks to solve their hybrid mailbox move issues and allow the customer to continue their deployment. Microsoft took the most common migration failure scenarios and put them into this easy to follow guide.

Hyper-V administrators of Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 can replicate their virtual machines from a primary server/cluster to a replica server/cluster for business continuity and disaster recovery purposes. The Capacity Planner for Hyper-V Replica provides server, storage and network provisioning guidance which would allow IT administrators to successfully plan for a Hyper-V Replica deployment.

What is New

Microsoft added in a few improvements to the tool. Here is what the updated Capacity Planner tool has:

Support for Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2 in a single tool

Support for Extended Replication

Support for virtual disks placed on NTFS, CSVFS, and SMB shares

Monitoring of multiple standalone hosts simultaneously

Improved performance and scale – up to 100 VMs in parallel

Replica site input is optional – for those still in the planning stage of a DR strategy

Report improvements – e.g.: reporting the peak utilization of resources also

Improved guidance in documentation

Improved workflow and user experience
