How to Pitch Windows Vista & Office 2007 to GenY
Today I had the opportunity to sit and listen to presentations from 5 teams of Marketing students from UNSW, (with support from their lecturer Mark Uncles.)
The brief was "How to market Vista and Office to the youth market" and the teams were
- (winner) Team Zeitgeist
- (runner up) Team Underpaid Super Heros
- (runner up) Team Chal
- Team Impact
- Team WiFi
It was great to see these 'future marketers' tackle Gen-Y and come up ideas and strategies to appeal to this group of consumers.
There were some great ideas, some wacky ideas, some realistic things and some things that would cost a lof of money to implement. But most importantly, they were all ideas from members of Gen-Y for Gen-Y.
A couple of the teams proposed online 'viral' compaigns which reminded me of Long Zheng's recent How To Sell Vista post.
Another common theme was making Vista available for download using Bittorrent. Now, this reminded me of the ill-fated Vista Torrent site, which was set up by Chris Pirillo but then shut down pretty quickly.
The runner's-up got XBOX games and the winners got an XBOX 360 console each, and I reckon the experiece they had in working on this and pitching to Microsoft has been invaluable.
Anyways thanks guys and good luck with the rest of your studies. Looking forward to seeing you unleased into the real world soon.
