Organize your data with subject trees
Did you know that you can create, edit, or remove subjects in a subject tree? You can then create and manage the subject hierarchy by using the subject tree. The subjects you add to the subject tree can be used to link different entities within Microsoft CRM, such as cases, contacts, knowledge base articles, or even services such as consulting. Although you can only set up one subject tree, subjects can have parents and children. For example, a parent subject named supplies may have pencils, highlighters, and copier toner as child subjects. When a subject is linked to another subject, a flattened-out representation of the subject hierarchy is created. Subjects appear in alphabetical order.
Because the subjects you add to the subject tree are so important to finding information quickly and effectively, be sure to take the time you need to create a thorough and relevant list. Consider having brainstorming meetings with members of each business unit in your organization. Get feedback from as many groups as possible: the owner, group managers, sales people, the maintenance team. More from the help documentation:
Create or edit a subject
Required security role: This task requires the CSR Manager, System Customizer or System Administrator security role or equivalent privileges.
1. In the Navigation Pane, click Settings.
2. Under Settings, click Settings. Then, in the Settings area click Subjects.
3. Under Common Tasks, click Add a Subject.

In the Subject Tree, select a subject, then under Common Tasks, click Edit Selected Subject.
4. In the Subject dialog box, enter information or observe any noted restrictions or requirements as needed:
· Title
Enter a name for the subject. This is a required field.· Parent Subject
You can click Lookup to search for and select a parent subject for the new subject.
Leave the Parent Subject box empty if you want the new subject to be a parent subject.· Description
Enter a descriptive statement about the subject.5. Click OK.
