Why Can't I Access the 'Settings' area?

From my FAQ file:

There are several reasons why this may occur:

   • Using the features requires specific permissions, and not all roles have those permissions.

To understand security roles, privileges, and access level, you can read the online Help topic, “Setting Security Roles, Privileges, and Access Levels.”

At the bottom of the Help topic, in the Related Topics area, there is a link to the topic “Create or edit a security role,” which explains step-by-step how to modify roles.

   • If both the Microsoft CRM Web application and the Microsoft CRM laptop client for Microsoft Office Outlook are open at the same time, the Settings button on the Navigation Pane in the Microsoft CRM Web application is not available. To access the Settings button, close both clients and reopen the Microsoft CRM Web application.

   • If you are working in the Microsoft CRM client for Outlook, the Settings area is not available.

   • If Reporting Services is not set up correctly, you may get an error message when you attempt to access the Settings area, or if you can access the area, any changes are not saved. You can find troubleshooting information in Chapter 15 of the Microsoft CRM 3.0 Implementation Guide.
