The other day, I wanted to copy content of a folder (including all of its subfolder) that was packaged with my AppX to my local storage.

Before calling CopyFolder, I’d recommend checking to make sure the folder you want to copy is not already there. You can do so by calling getAsyncFolder. Also, to ensure your files are actually packaged into the AppX, make sure you set the build action for the file to “Copy Always”. (E.g. In the Properties pane, set Copy to Output Directory to “Copy always”)

Here is the code:

var applicationData = Windows.Storage.ApplicationData.current;
var localFolder = applicationData.localFolder;

function CopyFolder(source) {

It’s been over a year since I last blogged. A lot of things has changed for me both personally and professionally this past year. So... what exactly has changed?

First off, I have to say… I love the Silverlight technology! It was a lot of fun working on it and even more fun using it. That said, personally, I wanted to see what all the HTML5 fuss is about. Luckily for me, there was an opportunity to work on some pretty cool HTML5 technology within Microsoft. After a non-eventful interview, I transferred onto my current team in Microsoft and am now working on said technology.

So what exactly am I working on? Bringing a concept of grid layout to HTML5! Our W3C Editor’s draft is available here: http://www.interoperabilitybridges.com/css3-grid-align/

I’d love to hear your feedback. Not surprisingly, many concepts from my previous jobs can be seen here. :)

I haven't blogged in a while and like always.. I have plenty of excuses but I won't bore you with them. :) So what have I been up to?

Well, like all products, once you've shipped there is a standard amount of churn in the organization. Anyways, the dust has mostly settled now and I've taken on the new role of Silverlight Community PM.

Ok... but what exactly does a Silverlight Community PM do? There are external and internal parts of the job, but things non-Microsoftie will see me do are stuff like.. I own the Silverlight MVP track. (If you are a Silverlight MVP, you've probably interacted with me already.) I will also be driving the Silverlight Toolkit project. Besides those, I'll also work closely with our Evangelists (Adam and Tim) to help drive events with the Silverlight Insiders and Silverlight EAP groups as well as work closely with Tim and Jesse to see how the product team can help contribute to the awseome content on Silverlight.NET. Of course, I'll also look to you guys, our dedicated Silverlight customers, to let me know how you'd like to better interact with the product team and help better drive your feedback directly into our product.

Right now, I'm working to get our PDC ducks in a row and make sure we have a splash at PDC. Stay tuned!
